Description Here's the gang. Foodie, Ralph Baido, Amber Hathoren, Teedo Jambit and Chafe Samson doin' it for the camera. I believe this is the fist colored pic I've done of Teedo's wings without their cozies.

The big ol' winged guy reminds me of my boyfriend... which makes me smile a LOT.

This is awesome.

Truthfully, I've been ill all weekend and needed a cheer up - your recent upload of Ralph reminded me how cute your art is, and...well, that settled it

Hrm, makes me wonder how the "Kneepad Thing" got started. That lineup looks like a one-page ad for a new Saturday Morning cartoon series, but I wonder what animation outfit could pull off your style? I can't think of anyone who comes close besides Nelvana --- and are they even still around?

Wonder what the "show" would be about, or be titled..."Alternate Youth"? Following the "usual" high-school adventures of a close-knit crew of friends in a universe where most things are at least somewhat off-kilter compared to our own?

"Yes, students, it's Pomegranate Day! Everyone step out to the orchard where the teaching staff is awaiting your judgement!" -

Ya know, I haven't quite thought about how the knee pads started... I just wanted to give them some different fads than we here on Earth have. I'm gonna hafta go through my old drawings & see when those started to show up.

Didn't Nelvana do " Rock N' Rule "? I'd kinda like to steer away from any associations from that movie. I'm not nuts about my characters being compared to it. If there ever was a cartoon, I'd have absolute control over everything or it won't happen. These is my babies!

As it is, I'm aiming to start my stories before they even start school. Possibly before Ralph's born. I want my comic ( or whatever it becomes ) to last a looooong time.

Yes, Nelvana did "Rock N' Rule", and yes that was a long time ago. I know some people have confused your character style with some of the characters in the film, which is nonsensical when you compare them side by side. There's no comparison to be made. I mention Nelvana because they're one of the few companies known for doing detailed character design --- most others prefer to cut corners and "streamline" designs to make it easier, faster (and therefore cheaper) to produce the work.

Not that I'm bugging you to use them (assuming you're ever in a position to do so), but I figured I'd put the record straight.

As far as a long-running story like that goes, comic books would be your best single option (of course --- what other medium would let you tell a multigenerational story in literally graphic detail?). On the "cool beans" front, comic book production costs are coming down and becoming more readily accessible to the independent artist. Some printers are now specializing in the independent comic trade, to the extent that you could get a run of 500 copies done in black-and-white for about a buck apiece. Now, as to whether or not you can sell them and make your money back, or maybe a bit more, that's another story, as it always is in the indie comic industry. -

Yeah, Nelvana does have it's own look. even that Chipmunk movie they did had it. I think they did the Star Wars Droids & Ewoks cartoons as well.

Heh heh, that's my thought about the comic book route also. I think I'd have an easier time keeping control of the content as well.

Inevitably. Anytime you get into animation, something gets lost...Frank Frazetta wanted to do a film once upon a time, but the animation studio refused to draw jewelry the way he wanted --- free-flowing, individually-pieced, and detailed. They claimed it would drive their animators insane trying to track each shiny bit.

Of course, since then, they've had animation companies do exactly that, using computers to do the tracking, but there's always limits --- and of course, adding more cooks means more people to spoil the broth in the end.

I've been hoping you'd do one of these, especially since I've become increasingly interested in your characters. I've been wanting to see all of them together.

Big-Foot [2004-10-11 23:19:42 +0000 UTC]

Don't mind me asking, but what's up with the kneepads and pocket box things? I've noticed them in all your pictures, but I was never able to put together the pieces. Does it have anything to do with the futuristic ideals and stuff? How come foodie doesn't have one? Anyway, lovely group picture. I like the new character! I don't think I've ever seen a winged rabbit anthro... Very creative. I give it 5 gold stars and 2 cookies!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Phraggle In reply to Big-Foot [2004-10-12 23:15:10 +0000 UTC]

Mmmm. Cookies!

The knee pads & belt pouches are just the trend and/or the Way where these guys are from.

Mrleansleanarium [2004-10-11 20:55:03 +0000 UTC]

Your art is awesome! Very nice indeed, especially the texturing of the clothing. Just one question: Are these guys skaters? Cuz everyone's wearing kneepads.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Phraggle In reply to Mrleansleanarium [2004-10-11 21:57:23 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha! That's the first time anyone's ever asked me that! No. They aren't skater guys... maybe when they were younger. They just wear knee-pads cuz it's the look where they're from.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Mrleansleanarium In reply to Phraggle [2004-10-12 04:21:02 +0000 UTC]

Sorry if I was rude. It is true what some people say about everyone in California though: People say that everyone in California either A. skates; B. is famous; C. surfs; D. is gay; E. likes Ahnuld; or F. All of the above. Me? I'm more of a CA guy!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Phraggle In reply to Mrleansleanarium [2004-10-12 23:22:09 +0000 UTC]

You weren't rude. Hmmm... I suppose those things could be true. You forgot G. though; insane.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Mrleansleanarium In reply to Phraggle [2004-10-13 03:59:33 +0000 UTC]

That is true, though. And I love how some other people are questioning the "Kneepad" comment. I brought it up just because the pic looks like an ad for an after-school program based on skate parks and the like.

Ultrawolf [2004-10-11 20:12:10 +0000 UTC]

wow, And excellent group picture, they look so fashion style, they should be shopping before it. I love Ralphs clothes, he looks more, relaxed, all of them enjoy the camera. I didnt notice that Ralph looks so sexy without a tie. Amber n chafe, excellent pair, amber allways looks very 70's, it fits her well, *oh 70's are back* and Teedo, he looks so well with his wings free, maybe someday we can watch him spread them? that will be cool.

Congrats for an excellent pic^^

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Phraggle In reply to Ultrawolf [2004-10-11 21:55:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, Ralph doesn't always wear ties, I just fancy him that way. Heh heh. I like to give flares to all of their pants actually. I've always had a thing for the flaring bell-bottom look. We'll see Teedo's wings soon I hope.

*chuckles* oohhh, a nice group shot. Don't see many of these (specially cos it's hard to put so many people into one pic.) And not seen Teedo for a looong time. Nice job

Heh heh, seems like all I do is group shots. Heh heh, I like doing them though. Yeah, Teedo's been " in the shop " for a while. I think he's about ready though.
