Description
Welp, I did one of the more recent MEMEs. ( I hate that term, meme. It's stupid. Plus, nobody can tell me what it means ). Anyway, for some reason you're supposed to guess who my favorite characters are. There's no order to this and there's tons more who could've made THE CUT, but anyway... woo.Answers:
Tom, Underdog, Gobo Fraggle, Jojo, Wheezy Weasel, Sideswipe, Rufferto, Sid the Sloth, Greedo, Usagi Yojimbo.

I like your interpretation of your favorite characters. A nice mix of the original artists' style along with your own artistic attributes. What is Rufferto from? He looks familiar. I also am confused by the term "meme". Is is pronouonced mee-mee or memay? Is it a pun on the words me combined with memo? Did you use art pens?

Thanks. Rufferto is from the comicbook " Groo the Wanderer ". I think I heard an explanation for the term meme ... I think it's short for something but I dunno. I pronounce it " MEEM ". Most of this is done with marker & black ink I think. There's a part 2 in my gallery somewhere.

If that's true, Red's alpha female, since she's always fighting with Gobo about leadership and things.

Lessee...
Tom, the psycho-killer cat. Underdog. Gobo Fraggle. The kid from the Horton Hears the Who movie. Art Carney. A full back for the Green Bay Packers, a mutt having a nice relaxing dump, the sloth from Ice Age...
Isn't that some sleezy alien from the bar scene in Star Wars? and the Trix Rabbit.
Just kidding about Trix. But it's odd for me to see Usagi in such a list -- to me, Stan Sakai is just another guy I knew from the early days of furry fandom.

You win a for best guesses ( of which some were correct ).
Usagi Yojimbo is the only comic book I still buy from when I started buying comics in the 80s. That & Groo the Wanderer. ( The mutt having a relaxing dump is Groo's dog ).
The term " furry " is still somewhat newish to me. I know most of my characters looks furry but I just can't slap that label on them.

I would't call Fraggles furry, exactly. The original use of the word meant anthropomorphized animals, and was usually applied by fans to funny animal characters like Bugs Bunny, Pogo or Yogi Bear. There was a bit of conceptual difficulty about non-talking animals in a funny animal story -- dogs that chased and bit Huckleberry Hound, for instance.
But only the fanatic would call Astro (from the Jetsons)a furry. The Fraggles seem more like a non-human being, to me. But most Muppets, being talking animals like frogs, pigs and bears, *are* furry.
Not that it matters. You like what you like.
One question. Are Fraggles furry around the body and tail, but nekkid on their arms, legs and face? Or do the just have shorter hair there?

Phraggle In reply to TaralWayne [2010-10-25 22:54:22 +0000 UTC]
Back in the day, I thought the term was usually just " anthro - something-or-other ". Fraggles co-exist with humans so they seem more like a different species to me. Although, when I was talking about my stuff being furry ( well, non-furry ) I was referring to the dog guy I draw and his friends & whatnot.
Hmmm... I dunno if fraggle arms, legs & heads are furry or not. Like if a fraggle walked into the room without somebody's arm inside it, I'm not sure if it would have plain skin or light fur like a horse or what. It's hard to say.

Well, they have hair on their heads, hair on the tuffs of their tails, and fur around their bodies (front, back, and...ahem...between the legs), but the remaining "skin" is felt, which is basically the Muppet equivalent of "skin", so maybe, Fraggles are anthromorphic, mouse-size humanoids that are like the platypus when it comes to comparisons with their fellow mammals (their noses & mouths are beak-like, they have fur on their bodies, they love to swim and have fun, and if the idea of where Fraggles come from is discussed, the episode Wembley's Egg might be a reference).
