Description Jaxxon is a tall, green rabbit dude from the very early issues of the original Marvel Star Wars comic book series. I did a little research because he looks a heck of a lot like Bucky O'Hare ( another non-Star Wars, green, space rabbit comic book character) but it seems that any similarities are a coincidence. One of Bucky O'Hare's creators did work on one issue of the original Marvel Star Wars but it was a few years after Jaxxon came & went. Here's his bio if'n ya'll want a 'lil more info: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jaxxon Personally, I've always liked the guy.

Yeah, you can tell that things are still forming and aren't quite so rigid, which I personally like; it gives it more of an anything-can-happen, pure adventure feel. I've read bits and pieces of the original run and for the most part they were all good but they were also something else; creative. These comics took chances, made stories ranging from weird to serious and tried to take the then massive wild and open universe of Star Wars and add to it, a thing no one else had even thought of doing before. They all just had a feeling of excitement to them, because you never knew what you might get from one issue to the next and that is a feeling very rare in most comics and entertainment in general today. I'm glad to hear that these are starting to get some more recognition and love, they definitely deserve it

It was hard for me to get into the original artist but after a while, they got some really good ones, especially Tom Palmer who did a lot of the inking/finishing. The art and stories really began changing and becoming their own thing near the end. I kinda wonder what could have happened if it didn't get canceled.

Yeah the original art-style is... unique to say the least, but I've managed to warm up to it over time and appreciate the odd charm it has. People may claim that Dark Horse was the premier Star Wars comic maker (and I ultimately agree with them for the most part), but if it weren't for the old Marvel run then who knows if they would have ever gotten or wanted the deal. It would be interesting to see what might have happened had Marvel kept the rights, though when they were bought by Disney, I wonder if Marvel would have kept the rights or if they might have lost the rights for a time.
BTW, have you read any of the new Marvel books? I don't have a lot of money to spend and am curious if they are worth picking up; I've heard mixed things about the main series and fantastic things about the Darth Vader book, but I'd like your opinion on it before making any final judgements on any of them from one Star Wars fan to another

Yeah, what's his name... Carmine Infantino or something. Yeah, his stuff was tough to get used to but I just tried to accept it as best I could. His version of Han always kinda bugged me though. He made him waaay too manly or something.

I do have a ton of the Dark Horse comics. I had to quit after a while cuz it was difficult to keep up and well, lack of interest. They were fun when they were new & fresh though and there are some nuggets of gold in the Dark Horse books too.... like the one where Maul comes back. I want that to be used in an Obi-Wan movie. They could still do it too cuz Maul's appearances in the Clone Wars & Rebels haven't completely trumped that story yet.

Disney owns Marvel so... I guess Marvel wins when Star Wars is concerned.

I bought one of the new Marvel books with a variant Greedo cover. I looked at it but, to be honest, it didn't do much for me. I'm not really keen on them just " erasing" some much of what was once considered canon. Although, I have heard about some cool recent Vader comics they did of which I'd like to read some day. For the most part, I just pick & choose what I believe is canon.

Hey, I said I liked them, that doesn't mean I don't have issue with some of their choices I always think of Han as someone who is sort of in the middle between buff and skinny, he seems like the type to run more than fight (that scene with Han running at the Stormtroopers and then running away immediately after still makes me laugh to this day), plus when you have a Wookie on your side it makes not having to fight pretty easy.

Yeah, there are some good ones and some bad ones (as there is with any series or publisher, really). Personally, Star Wars: Legacy was a good read to me and I liked the series about the beginning of the Jedi that got cancelled when the Disney deal happened and the KOTOR comic was a fantastic read (even though I only read the first two or three arcs). I agree with Maul, that rematch alone along with all the potential emotional connections could make for a great movie, along with whatever else they could get from living a life on Tatooine.

I suppose they get preferential treatment for being Disney's in-house comic company. If they can get some good stories out of it, I'll accept it.

I do the same thing; they can say what they want and publish whatever timelines they want to, but at the end of the day I say what I think is cannon. A bit of the books, a couple comics and one or two games along with the movies make up my cannon. No matter what anyone says, that is my story and I'm sticking to it

Heh, they did kinda have trouble drawing Chew for a while too. It was still fun though. That Tom Palmer dude did really good renditions of Chewie though.

Yeah. I sometimes just think of some stuff as misinterpreted or sensationalized and I also don't mind the " alternate reality " concept either when decided how to canonize my Star Wars canon.

Hablade In reply to Phraggle [2016-07-11 00:46:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but it was always more hilarious than distracting to me. Yeah he did, some of the best Chewie art I've seen came from Palmer.

I always liked the idea that the OT was old from R2 and 3PO's view. Maybe it's something like that, and it is just a dramatization of events. Alternate reality works too; what's canon? EVERYTHING!!! (In some universe out there XD)

Phraggle In reply to Hablade [2016-07-11 00:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Tom Palmer & Walt Simonson sort of are what formulated what comic book art is supposed to look like. Mostly because the 3 Star Wars comics I owned back in the 80s were by them.

There's room for everything! I like how R2 probably has a record of everything.

Hablade In reply to Phraggle [2016-07-11 01:03:47 +0000 UTC]

Really? That's pretty cool!

Yeah, R2 is the key to everything; I bet somewhere in the SW Universe there are conspiracy theorists hunting for R2 to find out 'the truth.'

R2 Hunters would make a good comic book series.

Yeah, it's like a mix of Treasure Planet adventure/sci-fi treasure hunting and X-Files conspiracies XD. Sounds hilarious and weird and I would love to read something like that; Star Wars through the lens of tertiary characters to the tertiary characters that are hunting for the truth.

Yeah, he's the mystery they're all trying to solve; where in the galaxy is R2-D2? Overtime it turns into this grand conspiracy that ultimately reveals that R2 is... serving drink like Episode 6 at Dexter's Diner and having a steamy affair with the waitress droid.

And then he reveals he sold his recording of the actual events to buy his wife some jewlery and the series ends with the heroes just having a drink and chatting with R2. Best ending ever 10/10 IGN XD

Hablade In reply to Phraggle [2016-07-15 00:15:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh right, memory wipes are a thing. I completely forgot about that XD
Maybe instead 3PO was their butler/assistant after getting memory wiped and when R2 reveals who he is the group thinks, "...really? We had one of the droids we were looking for with us this WHOLE time? REALLY?!" Then R2 and C-3PO have an awkward semi-reunion that is equal parts touching and comedic XD
I think we may be onto something, man. We could take this to Disney and try to make this a thing

That sounds cool and seems like it could be awesome, but I hope they get James Earl Jones to voice him and not an impersonator; Rebels S2 showed he still has it and I think if it's anyone else than it would be a disrespect to the character and James Earl Jones' ability as a VA.

Hablade In reply to Phraggle [2016-07-23 23:29:31 +0000 UTC]

I was annoyed with it at first, but after a while I saw how genius it was. They built up Luke over the whole movie as this larger than life figure, almost like a character from an old mythology, and helped bring back some of the mysticism that the force had in the OT. That was something that I loved about the movie, that the Force regained the old feeling of mystery and child-like wonder. Maz talking about Rey's destiny really gave me some Yoda "Luminous Beings" vibes which is my favorite part of the whole Original Trilogy.

I was totally expecting to get spoiled, but somehow by the grace of god I got in that theatre with virgin ears. I was really proud of myself, especially because when I later watched a Youtube video the next day, a comment about Han dying was one of the first you'd see. Dodged a serious bullet there XD

Phraggle In reply to Hablade [2016-07-27 23:58:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, same here. I do think Disney also had better means of keeping things hush-hush but it may also becoming for trendy to not spread spoilers too. With Han, I only suspected it but had no info to go on. I could sense as the scene progressed that it would happen but I was still all " please don't kill him, please don't kill him ". It worked well for the story though. Han always makes you miss his presence.

Hablade In reply to Phraggle [2016-07-28 01:20:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the second that whole scene started, I could feel a knot form in my gut. As it went on, I could feel it coming like a deer in the headlights and when it finally happened, I felt genuinely shocked by how sudden it was. It's been a good while since a movie got that reaction out of me so kudos to the film-making crew for that
