Description
Here's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Slash tending to his palm tree. ( In the Archie TMNT comic book series, Slash was searching for his palm tree, of which he did eventually find ). Foof isn't sure what he's stumbled upon though.P.S. I actually didn't know Slash referred to the palm tree as his Binky... or that he was in the original cartoon with said Binky. All of my Slash knowledge was from the Archie Comics.

It was a co-creative effort.

My favorite (and strangely at the same time most hated) version of the character is from the SNES version of Turtles In Time, I honestly felt like he was harder to beat than Supper Shredder.
BTW I love the goody face. I know some just want him to be a purely evil turtle monster but I kinda like the idea that he is that but he's also got a pretty goofy side (mainly due to his low intelligence) and the devotion to the binky is just great.

Thanks. I always felt Slash wasn't really bad. ( I never played the video game so I only know him from the old action figure & the Archie Comics ). They actually use him very well in the Archie Comics... poignantly well.

I've heard others say similar things to that.

Yeah. They made him quite loveable in that comic.

80s Slash is always a misunderstood character. All the guy wants is his little palm tree, and the villains keep using it to force him to do their biding, mostly taking hits from the turtles...

Unless you read the Archie Comics. Then you realize he's...a better written character.

I have some Archie volumes, but those don't include him. I can't get my hand on the old, paper issues, so now I'll have to wait until IDAw release its digital version. I know he's just a poor gullible guy...

I'm not sure if he's actually a mutant or an alien. I just read an Archies Mighty Mutanimals issue ( #9, the final issue ), where he gives his origin. I didn't care so much for it. He said he was from a planet with a lot of palm trees that wound up getting destroyed... kinda like in " The Lorax ". I preferred thinking he was a mutated turtle that still remembered the palm tree in his aquarium. So, in my mind, I think that's how it will be.

Awesome! And you are right, he did have the little palm tree in the cartoon and he caused havok trying to get it back! Did you know that he was created by Bebopnd Rocksteady? Here's the link of his cartoon episode if you would like to see it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ublkr…

Heh heh. I've since learned. I can't say for certain but I think the cartoon got the idea for his palm tree from the Archie Comic book... or they were probably both developed at the same time by similar writers.

The Archie Comics was my Slash as well! In fact, I've always had trouble with other incarnations of Slash because for the longest time, I always thought he was only in the Archie universe. Whoops! Adorable portrait here, he looks so happy with his beloved palm tree.

Yeah, I think Slash came from the minds behind the Archie TMNT comic and the other sources sort of borrowed from what they began. I knew he was in one of the original cartoon episodes but I've never seen it. I think in the original cartoon, there was a season where they tried to give all of the actions figures at least one episode.
Thanks so much.

Ah, well if that's the case, that he was an Archie creation, then I feel a little better about myself! He definitely had more development as a character in Archie than in the 87 cartoon. Though that's not saying much, since as you said, they definitely tried to squeeze in as many action figures as possible, even if that meant little to no character development.

I think many of the original action figures were designed by a lot of the people who worked on the Archie comics... and prolly some of the Mirage Studios ones as well. I guess in the cartoon, Slash's palm tree was referred to as his " binky ".
