Description
This is my first stamp...can you tell? I think i will upload another version later, when i have more practice.Anywho this is something i have been wanting to do for awhile and never got the chance, until now.
This is the confederate battle flag, a lot of the people who actually fought in the confederate army were not slave owners and two of them i can directly trace my family line to.
This is not about saying i'm better because i'm white it's about saying i had a great great grand-father and great-grand uncle who fought in the confederate army and i don't want to forget them.
If you have an ancestor who served in the confederate army please fill free to use this stamp or make another version, if you want to.

It's a cultural thing. The southern flags stand for more then just the Civil War in the south, it's more about freedom and heritage.
Sure, you all can make union flags, it's your constitutional right to. There just arn't as many out there.

I've never seen a Union flag flown up in the North since...well, the Civil war. And I don't believe it's culture or heritage. You don't see German's flying the Prussian flag, do you?

I think that could be because the union flag is just like the american flag we have today, minus a few stars because most of the west wasn't officially part of the union.

Yes but you don't rightly see the North embracing a terrible time, now do you?

It's not about embracing a terrible time, it is about not forgetting a terrible time. Flags are symbols and mean different things to different people. People from the North probably will never understand how we feel about the Rebel flag because they haven't lived in this area. Most of them have probably never seen a Civil War battlefield or graveyard. Hell, most of them probably believe the only thing the Civil War was about was slavery.

Yes. I have. Thanks. I live in a place that is considered Southern by the North and North by the South. I'm very well aware of what the Civil War was about, thank you kindly. I still do not think it's a flag that should be embraced.

Oh well I can certainly see your point about a past that isnt coming back and shouldn't be embraced....well, I better go tell those pesky Native Americans that honoring aspects of their culture is stupid and outdated while I remove my battle flag from my porch. Oh and not to mention taking down the US flag that flies beside it because the ideals that it represented have long since been corrupted by large government greed and socialist politics from a majority of angry liberal politicians.
Well, since Im not going to do the other two, Im not about to fold up my battle flag anytime soon.

Apparently people like you enjoy taking things to the extreme because you can see nothing else but extremes. Must be a sad world you live in. And since you apparently can't have a civil discussion I'm going to end this. Have a wonderful day.

And how is anything I have said extreme?
All I have done is set out for you a clear black and white on my view of the Confederate flag.
You either love it and honor the men who died under it, or you think its evil and join the ranks of those who would misuse it for evil by sharing their view of it.
I fail to see how that is extreme, maybe you can explain it to me? I promise to give it a full, civil discussion assuming you offer me something useful.

I have to make a point of confronting ignorance and prejudice whenever I encounter it.
If you are not a liberal, then you must be one of the KKK's useful idiots who want to help them fully claim the flag of my ancestor.
If thats the case then you are indeed wasting my time.

Ahh the joys of a border state. I have always lived in Alabama so I can say very safely that I have never had that issue. I didn't say you didn't know I just said that was the case in most people from the North. It's ok that you don't think it should be embraced, I don't have one myself. I just think history should never be swept under the rug just because it might offend some people. Sure, people have a right to be offended by it if they want to, but that shouldn't impinge on the rights of others to remember and honor history and/or their ancestors.
Again, note the use of they and them not you, nothing was implied about you. I was just adding my thoughts to the discussion.

I'm not saying history should be swept under the rug, but acknowledging it and reveling in a dark period in American history is another thing entirely. And it's not honoring history. It's being ignorant of the fact of by and large what it means: succession from the US.

I can see where you are coming from, and I understand the argument, but it can also mean standing up for the rights guaranteed to states when they joined the Union. Consider the constitution a contract. When that contract is violated, it becomes null and void. Succession was only a result after it became apparent that those grievances were not being addressed. It's all in how we look at things.
Perhaps we can agree to disagree?

Same here. I tend to get uncivil when people patronize me, insult me or (as the case just recently) decide to feel sorry for me. Some people, I swear, take a difference of opinion way to far when they start with all that crap. So I do thank you for not going there, very refreshing to have a healthy debate instead of an insult match.

Having lived in Germany, I have proof. The Germans not only have the Prussian Eagle, they also still have the shields of the individual German states/regions. If that's what they want, fine. Why do you have such a big problem with it? Yes, it's a past that can't be changed, but does that then mean that England should abandon St. George's Cross? Should we ignore the multitude of flags flown during our American Revolution? What are you so afraid of that something so harmless is so abhorent to you?
