reminded me that I haven't done a self-portrait in a while. For the past few days, I've been trying to think of an idea for one. When I opened the refrigerator this morning knowing that I only have some basic items in there and somehow hoping that if I looked long enough something else would magically appear, it hit me. What more perfect self-portrait could I do right now?nude

First of all, what a beautiful self-portrait! Kudos to you darling. A single light source from a refrigerator is a challenge perhaps something the self-portrait community hasn't accepted before, but I think we are properly humbled now. The use of yellow-based light is artistically appealing with the hues of skin tone picked up with the model. It's not technically correct, but it lends so much to this piece that I can't fault it one iota. I know a darkroom developer would cringe and do a "color correct" and screw everything up, but I would call him an idiot and insist he put it back.
There is perhaps a little lack of clarity due to the darkness of the shot. This is the only technical thing I could fault with it, and this is a critique, so I mention it and do mark it. I feel dirty to do so, because I enjoy this piece so much and think it's a masterpiece of self-portraits...but alas, he asks for critique.
As for improvement in the overall work, I think you might have had more than a blank expression there darling. I see this expression on all your self-portraits and I do wonder what you're thinking. It's not a bad expression, not at all, it's just very...bland. You're right about my expressions being a little blank in self portraits. In this one, though, I don't know what I could do to change it. Basically, I was trying to get a "lost in my own thoughts" kind of look. In other words, I wasn't really looking at the contents of the refrigerator, but kind of staring past them. Maybe I'm a bad actor. What I was going for was being sad, but so tired of being sad that the emotion wasn't showing much anymore. Maybe along the lines of just being resigned. Does that make sense?
