Description
Felt like expanding on my female turian illustration . I removed the crest because that's one of the official female turian characteristics: the lack of the crest, and that only males have them. Which makes sense, since turians are avian-based.I tried to avoid deviating too much from the male design. I changed the pelvis area, and expanded the chest area a bit. I liked the idea of being able to place a baby turian inside the... cavity(?) or space.
The pelvis area has a lot of overlapping plates to accommodate the baby, though in my head, baby turians start out really small. The idea was inspired by this beautiful illustration . Mostly so that it fits the idea of having them inside the chest/collar cavity thing. It makes for easy mobility for the mothers, especially in the early years of turians, where, in my head, they were hunter-gatherers and had to move a lot. Women hunted too, and this made it easier for them to support the rest of their tribe, say, with ranged weapons, if they could easily move around.
Silly thoughts to explain random doodles.
The progress of my sketches was by batch: the upper left, the upper right and the bunch below. I wasn't too sure about the head and face shape that I wanted, but finalized it with the two armored females at the bottom.

"Which makes sense, since turians are avian-based."
Specifically, raptor-based, which means the whole "females don't have fringe" thing actually makes no sense, as the vast majority of male and female raptors (excepting harriers and American kestrels) are virtually identical in appearance and can often only be definitively sexed if there's a significant size difference (females are often larger than males,) or if they're being handled by an experienced ornithologist, falconer, birder, or breeder.
Plus there's the whole "they evolved their armor plating as a defense against Palaven's high levels of solar radiation. Meaning that females lacking fringe/head plating are lacking a vital component in their natural defenses against, you know... radiation burns and cancer.
Way to Fail Biology Forever AND invoke Did Not Do The Research and Somewhere An Ornithologist Is Crying, BioWare.
...sorry, as an amateur birdwatcher and someone who reads up on biology as a hobby, this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine Turians were based on birds of prey, not chickens, and sexual dimorphism in raptors isn't the same as sexual dimorphism in fowl. And evolution on Palaven would have selected i>against "bald" females with a massive vengeance, so... yeah.

Maybe they have thicker areas on the top of the head? Like... having a battering ram for a head! XD

Haha, thanks for the info. I roughly based my design off the comic illustration and a quick browse through a wikia article . I could have researched it better, but when I sketch, I usually just go with whatever inspires me... and then do the research.
Maybe. Which is how I ended up with the mess that is my female drell. Though that was mostly because I focused on the head and disregarded the body.
Either way though, the basic description seems official: they're basically the same as the male and have the fringe, as someone corrected me earlier, but no crest. I did wonder about the lack of it in relation to the radiation. It didn't make sense to me either that females wouldn't have that, especially in the environment they live in. So I added plates instead.
My primary goal with the sketches was to be able to figure out a way to make them look feminine without deviating too much from the male design. I can see now why Bioware might be reluctant to render and include females of the races in the game.

The fringes are the top point and sides of the face. The structure sticking out at the back UNDER the fringes are called Crest Horns. People get confused lots.
With that said, LOVE YOUR DESIGN! Deadly and beautiful. And like the Drell girl up in the corner, too!

Haha, yeah, I wasn't sure what they were called, and I was too lazy to check. Thanks
Thanks for the comments too.
