i wasn't going to add color but then i decided to for funsies. I made her eyes too far apart but... don't feel like fixing it now. XDas you can see, i'm going through my characters and trying to draw them a bit more realistic (as in design) and less.... stupid looking

Wonderful! I love all of the bluish shades in the skin, and it's interesting to see you take away emphasis fro the eyes, since you tend to make them a focal point to the face pretty often. It's gorgeous. I'm actually pretty okay with the eye distance, I'd say wait before you pull them closer, as it looks like the distance might fix itself once you pop the shading and eyelids a little more. What did stand out to me, however, is the length of the bridge of the nose. It's very long, and is pushing the mouth down pretty far as a result. It's a commons mistake that a LOT of artists (especially portrait artists) make, though, so it's kind of just a rule of thumb to always draw it shorter than you think it should be. In this case, proper placement would be right where you drew the top of the outside nostril wing. I think once that's changed, the placement of the mouth would come very easily.
Otherwise, lovely. I'm so excited to be seeing your stuff again, especially since you always push to grow as an artist, and I can't wait to see where you take your characters in fleshing them out, especially seeing how lovely this one looks (once again, that coloring on the skin! GORGEOUS).

I may or may not go back into this BUT I completely agree about the nose thing. Whenever I draw faces I sketch things out pretty roughly and as I go, I shrink down the proportions but.. apparently it wasn't enough in this case! I wonder why it tends to be so common?
thank you so-so-so much. I can't wait too : D I want to draw as much as I can before summer ends and I go back into the school-is-killing-me mode..

I'm rough too, I find it allows a lot more flexibility during the whole process, as it keeps you from getting too attached to linework. And I don't know, it's really interesting. Whenever I'm in a portrait or figure class, I notice it happening a lot. I know in the case of artists that move from anime, it's a matter of breaking style since it's one where the nose is placed very low on the face, but in regards to people that started with realism, I have no idea. I think maybe just because it's the only strong vertical on the face, so there's a natural tendency to lengthen it, and it's just a tricky shape to begin with.
I'm completely with you! We've got the same summer plans. It's been completely nonstop.

Hmm that makes sense both from the vertical point of view and the anime-style point of view, which I think would definitely be my case haha

I love the way you shade Did you do all the color shading base on the B&W style? (sorry for the dumb question) And it'll be great if you add a little more details with the hair...well, just a suggestion but it's already awesome as it is now

aw thanks for this picture, yes I did. I normally don't do that though. If you want to see how I did it, I recorded it here ( [link] ) it just has a big fat watermark on it :/
Thank you very much!

I'm impressed that you noticed that the eyes were too far apart, because it's almost so minuscule that I didn't notice until you said it, then I had to look hard. XD; It's such a tiny extra bit of space!
Nice drawing though. ^^ I envy the way you shade faces.

lol XD in the early sketch they were waaay too far apart, so i fixed them but after shading I realized they were still a tad too far.
