I love your lineless work! I've been fussing over a similar style like this for way too long. Any tips, as far as coloring? That's the part I'm having the most trouble with it seems.

The color wheel is your friend. This is a good siteΒ kuler.adobe.com/ to make your own color schemes.Β
I think the biggest issue people have with color is that they have too many options. It can be a little overwhelming. One can get many different colors combinations from just a few color choices.Β
Making sure to use complimentary colors is very helpful, it keeps things bright and happy and not muddy. Like using yellow to balance out a purple scheme or red to balance out green.Β
I'm sorry if you already know all this!
This is my friend Aranda's tumblr (she is DISGUSTINGLY talented) and she has been doing these color palate testsΒ arandadill.tumblr.com/
She is using a pre selected palletΒ arandadill.tumblr.com/image/88… to base her images off of.Β
I also suggest keeping pure white and pure black as your very last options as you can't get any lighter or darker once you have used them.
I hope that was helpful!Β

Oh my goodness thank you so much. Just another question, because I forgot to mention this in the first message, as far as like, actually creating the piece, what do you do? Like, for example, I've tried linearting the picture, filling it in so it's all one solid color, and going from there, but that's left me with lots of problems I don't know how to fix. Is there an easier way that's eluding me?

Can you show me an example? "filling it in so it's all one solid color" What is "it"?
I start with a basic sketch, just placement and gesture. Then I start drawing the line art on one layer with the colors below.
Layer-line art
Layer white specks
Layer pattern
Layer shadows and highlights and color variation
Layer base colorΒ

That's if I am doing something very heavy with line art.
If I am doing something just shapey, I use the lasso tool and make a basic shape and build up from it. But I try to keep everything on different layers so it can be altered and adjusted.Β

Okay, what I meant by "it" is the whole picture itself. Β I'm looking for a lineless style, more or less similar to this picture. I'll make the line art and color it, then make a selection to fill all of the lineart with a base color for my picture. Then I create a clipping mask and color the base color with color according to the colored line art. I do the line art because I want to keep everything neat and smooth at the edges from the get-go, instead of smoothing out the picture later.

I know other methods are people just "block" the color over their sketch and tweak it from there, locking the colors on the main layer so they don't make any stray lines. I was wondering what your method was, or if there was an easier way to go about it.

If I still sound confusing I can send you screenshots of what I mean? So you can get a visual.

Yeah, send me screen shots that would be easier lol. Sorry for the late response, I don't frequent DA as much anymore.
Β I do a sketch and then use the lasso tool to make the basic shape. Then add more shapes on top of the basic one. Sometimes I use the warp edit to change it. I sometimes also erase out things if I'm not exactly sure what I want to lasso/delete.

I guess male bodies can be kind of tough to draw for some people, but then again, you draw everything stylized, so I wouldn't worry too much in your case.

I love the magical, mysterious atmosphere of this with the inky black water and all the crystalline peaks poking up from its surface. And that surprisingly plushy-looking sea serpent. That thing's sure got some pretty frills. That is one astoundingly long beast, isn't it?

They are tricky, but I think it's because women have more interesting clothing then guys do.

It is one super long beast!Β

I feel like the eel is trying to spy on the boy, not realizing that the boy can see bits of himself sticking out of the water x'D
