Don’t take this flower for an ocean
A breeze is blowing from over the sea
In a life that lies beyond us yet
The notes upon
The blue guitar
Were things exactly

A torch is dying under the ground,
Our vaults and structures come crashing down
The Earth, for us
Is something rare;
Half in shadow,
All that’s there

Don’t dream of life under amber,
Of shells cracking, dry in the air,
Become a class of things that are:
A blue guitar,
A set of stars,
Or those exactly
Who they are

This is what I've been working on all month!! Basically, I really wanted to do Forduary, but decided that it would take less effort to make one long piece rather than four seperate ones! Ha ha...ha...

This is inspired by Dreaming Correctly by The Superconducting Supercolliders, which is an amazing song that means a hell of a lot to me for a variety of reasons. I figured that the three verses actually fitted really well for the Forduary prompts of portal, science, support and family (if you smush the last two together, that is xD). For verse 1 - 'Don't take this flower for an ocean' - just makes me think of Ford falling through the portal and being so overwhelmed and out of control and feeling like he's drowning, but then he's survives, he keeps going and he finds beauty and hope out there (and SCIENCE!). And then verse 2 - 'Don't speak of all our greatness...our vaults and structures coming crashing down' - for me makes me think of the basement and the portal and everything that happened when Bill was manipulating Ford, but also when Ford comes back through and eventually realises that he's not the lone hero he thought he was going to be/needed to be. All the things that Ford thought were going to make him great but actually came crashing down all around him. But then in verse 3 - 'Don't dream of life under amber' - he doesn't need to be stuck in the past anymore, or in all his guilt and fear - things have changed for the better, and there's hope and beauty again. And this time, he's not alone.

The actual premise of the picture is that Ford is dreaming - starting off with his life through the portal, before turning into a nightmare about Bill and then finally ending with him dreaming about being with Stan on the Stan O' War II and talking through stuff and everything being ok again. Originally I was gonna have a second part to this where he wakes up and Stan's like 'hey, are you alright?' and he says 'I am now.' Buuuut I'm probably not gonna draw that, so I guess you can interpret the 'Don't dream of life under amber' bit as Stan talking to Ford after waking from the nightmare.

AAANYWAY this has got super long!! I had a ton of fun drawing this although I kinda hated it by the end ahaha xD I actually did a lot of details on the journal pages (which aren't from journal 3 - I head canon that Ford kept another journal through the portal, but he didn't bring it back with him because it got lost or something), so here's all the stuff I wrote on the pages in case you want to know:

Interdimensional Rifts
Occurrence appears random, although they can be traced by detecting a unique type of quantum radiation that accumulates at the event horizon. Makes you feel nauseous, but it's by far the most efficient method of dimension hopping.
Wormhole vortex is very turbulent
Maybe they appear at weak spots in dimensional branes?
Maybe tendrils lead to bubble universes?

Rock Formations
Couldn't decide if they were some kind of protective ward, a religious monument or a glorified sun dial. No natives around to ask, besides the bandits who attacked me before I could translate the writing

The Furifang
An aquatic beast that dwells in the local bottomless lake. Only comes out at night, but I think it's because he's antisocial
Locals tried to prank me into thinking he ate human flesh, but he is strictly vegan

(and then the other one just says 'Axolotl')
