Honestly, the wax boy has a right to leave the relationship. She's literally melting/killing him, and she seems to know it. To be frank, this comic always seemed like a metaphor for an abusive relationship to me, with the fire girl as the abuser (hence why the wax boy will melt if he's around her). A healthy relationship shouldn't be one where one half of it has to die.

That does make a lot of sense; like she recognizes that she's harming him in some way but not sure how/why. Perhaps like a person who displays affection by physical aggression, who wonders why his/her significant others always seem to have bruises, as he/she believes the blows and kicks are 'normal.'
