Ah big plans ahead! Well, I would say never let your dreams go! I never in my life imagined I would go to Japan so soon! If you have the opportunity, take it! It's better to go when you can instead of always regretting it (although you may end up broke after the trip like I am )

Oh wow you're already at kanji? We first hammered the basics aka hiragana and katakana, then grammar. Kanji was actually more of a self-study thing

Oh my I meant hiragana. Wonder how I messed that up haha. I would be a bit more worried if we were already on kanji. I have learned about 1/2 of the hiragana.

Oh they're really easy. Especially once you get the hang of it. You read it so often. It's the katakana which are the real criminals. They come up rarely so it's difficult to practice and remember them

My teacher was just telling us this when we learned the first few symbols today! They are pretty easy to write. But We will see how well I can remember them haha.

Lol I've been doing Japanese for a year and a half now and let me tell you that I remember kanji better than I do katakana

Having finished the semester I whole-heartedly agree. I probably have forgotten a solid handful of katakana, But i think I remember the 29 kanji we learned. I didn't know you had taken that much already! Has it gotten harder as you learn more or does the difficulty more or less remain the same?

It gets more difficult. It's the sheer amount of knowledge you have to remember, and it doesn't help that you sometimes forget the basic stuff. You usually build on the foundations - this grammar section is 'this' but with this addition kind of thing. Do you think you'll go further with your studies?
Also, the latest update as to Japanese studies for me is also that I'll be going to Japan on my year abroad

Yeah I know exactly what you mean, so if you are shaky on the foundation, the newer stuff won't stick well or it will be difficult to understand. I plan to pursue a minor in Japanese, so I will have completed 6 semester of the language when I graduate.
That's so cool! When do you go? I am only going for a two week trip in January but better than nothing so I can't complain.

Yeah, that's exactly the problem! And you have to keep going back and reminding yourself cri
Ahh, I see. So same as me then. I took 30 credits each year so my degree title is gonna be 'BA English with proficiency in Japanese', so I guess it's similar to a minor?
I'm going in 2 weeks! Scary! I'll be there all year~ Ooh, where ya going? I've been around to a lot of places in Japan, so if you need help, let me know!

ah yes, I have forgotten so much over the summer. I may have to start as far back as some of the alphabet too haha. or at least the kanji I have learned anyway.
For my school only 18 credits are required for a minor but I will have 24 from all the classes I will take, and since my trip counts as credit too. And yeah that sounds like anothe rway of saying the major and minor.
WOAH a whole year??? That's great! I wish I could afford that haha. Though my financial aid wouldn't apply to it.(The two week trip is going to cost me about 6,000...)
I don't know much of the details yet but I know that some of the places are Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima maybe and a couple of others. I am going on a faculty lead trip, I would get lost if I went on my own haha

But that's so exciting that you are going for the whole year! I can't wait to hear about and I hope you take tons of pics~ I believe my trip is January 2-18
