Description 1. This place has a music all its own.
Before, I couldn't hear it.
My ears were closed by fear and anger.
But now, they're open, and it's everywhere.
The walls, with their basso hum.
The bridges, harmonizing in their rich tenor.
The laughter of colorful paints, the delicate sigh of a funnel,
And the accordion clicks and chirps of the sentries as they rehearse.
The whole facility serenades me as I make my way through it.
And I don't mind.
Now I know; it's not a battle hymn I'm hearing.
It's a symphony of love.
A chorus of old friends, reaching out to me,
Belting out the lyrics with all their might:
"Hello, my dear child! We're so glad you're here to test with us!"

2. I told myself that I would never trust others again.
"No attachments;" the one part of the Code I kept,
When I left this place, and drove the only life I knew,
Into the center stone of the Council's chamber.
But as I travelled, the ship filled up with strangers, now not so strange.
My partners in exile, my bunch of misfits.
My family.
We laugh together, cry together, and fight each other's fights.
And as time passes, we grow together, like entwining branches,
Made stronger by the bonds we form.
Stronger than we would have grown alone.
And as we grow, I feel the echo inside of me become fainter and fainter.
We are down on our luck,
Fighting a war against enemies we can't see,
Surrounded by allies we can't trust.
We are forever running.
Struggling to keep our heads down and our skins intact,
Long enough to figure out what to do next.
We are down on our luck, yes.
But we are still alive.
We are still together.
And to us, that's all that really matters.
