You only showed the masking loadbar.. But how do you make it? That's the loading bar I've looked all over the internet for, and nobody has a proper explanation!

If you are talking about the un-masking loadbar, you make it by doing the EXACT same thing but the mask moves rather than the "inside"

Awesome stuff, but when I tried it, it kept flashing between loading and finished loading screens. Rapidly. How do I fix that? Cus everytime I used the action script and inputed it, it'd say there was an error.

Not to sound stupid or anything, but what program do you use to make flashes?
I wasnt sure if it was in the allcap bold text or not.

Not sure why but when I test and do the "simulate download" thing it just goes white till it finishes loading and goes to the last frame. Any idea what could cause this?

I probably did something worng. I'll try it all again from the begining, but I like your hats! they're not THAT silly.

Here we use to say, when you know something, it doesn't matter how you show it. You have knowledge. And you did it with lots of fun, I'd say better explained than any book!
I'm so happy =]
Thank you!

Does anyone know what changes need to be made to the script to get it to not stop at frame 3? I want the movie to play instantly when the loading is done. Not wait for the person to press the play button.

For an update on 'YOU CAN STILL USE AS2 IN CS3'

I'd like to add that you can still use it in CS5.5 as well. Most likely CS5 and CS4 as well.
Just for any users that are wondering

This is really easy to follow so far, but it seems like I have a problem... when I go to the "Border" layer and click on the first frame, it won't allow me to add actionscript. It says "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it."

I'm using CS4 and actionscript 2.0, if that's of any help. Sorry if I'm bothering you, you must get tons of questions already.

Very helpful and fun, but I'm still having a problem. Whenever I go to test it, simulate download, it'll be frozen on a random percentage, usually low, and won't move at all. If I right click > play, the percentage will go up, but not to 100%. I have to right click play multiple times for it to load completely.

I've been following your tutorial, and it's everything I could have wanted. It's very clear, and I love the explanations you put in for what the coding does.

I'm having an issue getting my Play button to function properly, though. I've enabled simple buttons in CS5, but when I simulate the download or test the movie, my play button doesn't work. When I test my button by clicking it on the stage (not the download sim or test), it works fine and rockets through the frames, even if messing up my sound timing.

Do you have any suggestions for this? Thank you for your help again. This is a great tutorial.

Hmmm... Every time I try to play my movie my computer says there is a script that is making the computer go slow and that if this continues it will cause my computer to freeze. Is that the actionscript 2.0 thing you were talking about? Cause I'm pretty sure I have it on 2.0.

Anyone know what's up?

You are probably reeeeal tired of hearing about Flash problems by now, considering how old this is, but I did the tutorial, but my stop AS didn't work. It's just looping all of the scenes all together for a million years. D;

I'm trying to make a loading bar for my Flash site, do you think that is necessary?

pichu0123 [2009-09-05 16:24:56 +0000 UTC]

cool tutorial.
question: is preloaders important to a flash vid? why? and what does it do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to pichu0123 [2009-09-12 04:48:18 +0000 UTC]

If you don't have a preloader, a Flash vid will start playing the moment it loads the first frame. Thing is, download speeds fluctuate and frame sizes fluctuate, and that means that the playback is really jerky and poo, and this is not a good thing.

Preloading means every frame is loaded before it plays, so there's no doubt that the movie will run smoothly all the way to the end.
