Description
Read the "Ask Spike Da Dragon" Tumblr blog over here (and don't forget to ask a question or two!): [link]----------
I've decided to go ahead and feature here on DeviantArt some of the drawings I've made for the Ask Spike blog that I'm most particularly proud of, starting off with this one here! Exciting stuff!
----------
I've always wanted a good incentive to draw a dinosaur again after all these years, and I like to think this was a pretty good incentive.
The design for this dinosaur in particular was loosely based off another dinosaur I had found deep in the Internet, and I borrowed some of the parts used in that picture and threw in some robotic contraptions of my own.
The coloring could use a good bit of improvement (I don't really like that blue on his main body myself, but it's hard to figure out the color of a creature long extinct...), but overall I'm very happy with how the robotic T-rex came out.

Hey good job on this art! It's so cool I'm literally thinking about putting it on a shirt. Would that be fine with you? Because I really really love this

This reminds me of a cartoon from when I was a kid called Dino Riders.

Dat MetalGreymon... is it recolor?

There's two different colors: orange for a "good" MetalGreymon and blue/purple for a "bad" MetalGreymon. If you wan't to call it recoloring, then I won't argue with you, but the two different colors have different alignments.

I had a picture like this in my mind once, it was my riding Luna while playing a guitar, she was also playing a guitar, she was riding a T-Rex playing a guitar, who was driving a hummer, that shot lightning

omg, this made me laugh so much. And it's so true! XD
I didn't realise Spike was in the new cartoons (I'm assuming, by this, that he is?)

Thank you for the compliments!
Yes, Spike is in the newest rendition of the My Little Pony franchise, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."
I myself don't know much at all of his past appearances in My Little Pony (I can't bother myself to dig through all the mediocrity MLP has been in the past that I honestly don't regret missing ), but I would safely assume this is the best appearance and personality in the franchise he's ever had.

I've never watched the new series. I used to have some of the 80's or 90's episodes on DVD when I was a kid and loved them. However I haven't seen them since I was about 7 years old, and can't even find them on the net so I have no idea how well they hold up. XD

From what I've heard from those that have seen the older shows from the 80's and 90's today (I haven't seen them myself), they're almost painful to watch.
If there was anything mentioned about My Little Pony when I was growing up, I just brushed it aside and went back to watching the Disney movies out at the time over and over again. Growing up, I never gave MLP much credit for anything except being your typical girly stuff that made money from toys, and as a result I ignored anything doing with the franchise. With the newest show that came out though, it does a good bit to actually try and be entertaining in itself, despite it still being in the end about selling those toys.
And from an artist's/animator's standpoint, it kinda helps me appreciate how one can try to make some good out of the bad, and that even if the material you're given could be brushed aside at first by others, you can still try to make it appealing to those that actually check it out in the end. Perhaps that kind of inspiration is what ended up pulling me into this crazy fanbase?

Spike couldn't be more excited to have his own robotic dinosaur, at the sake of Ponyville of course.
And thank you!

Spike is like me: Better have two than one! I'm so bad at choosing from two equally good things.
/Didn't know ya really did an ask blog, hohoo! Maybe I'd watch you now from my Tumblr/

Agreed: if you can't decide between two and could choose both, you might as well choose both!
/And yep, I decided to go ahead with the idea after all. I'm still trying to figure out how to manage keeping it somewhat updated along with everything else, but in the meantime feel free to follow along with me on Tumblr as well! /

*craps brick* I'm so dead.
Hobbes: ACK! *looks up at BUD (Big Ugly Dino, based off the B-52 Stratofortress' affectionate nickname BUFF, or Big Ugly Flying Fella.) He does not notice Spike on top of it.* Are you a figment of Calvin's imagination or am I just going insane? And, before you ask, TIGERS NEVER GO INSANE! THIS IS NEW FOR ME!

I've never heard of that before, but after reading that I've now developed a new-found fear for the Bear-o-dactyl...
Leave it to The Oatmeal to make something like that.

Can't load Tumblr correctly? What browser are you using? If you're using Internet Explorer, that's probably you're problem right there, seeing as how Tumblr uses HTML5 which I don't think IE entirely supports yet.

I'd figure a Tyrannosaurus Rex with armor, mini-guns, a rocket launcher and a whole bunch of other robot parts would be a force to be reckoned with as well! I'd hate to be going up against THAT guy!

There was a strategy game way back in the day that had cyber dinos in it, it was called technosaur or something like that... this pic kinda reminded me of that!

Now that you mention it, this reminds me of something like that too. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it DOES feel like something from a strategy game or something along those lines I may have seen a long time ago...
Anyway, great to hear you like the picture as well!
