I can remember the first time I saw this comic. The page where everyone enters the ballroom for the first time had just been posted, and my sister showed it to me, and I immediately threw open my computer and started at the beginning. I have adored these characters, your damn accurate writings for everyone, and every plot, subplot, arc, level of seriousness and comedic timing, and the artworks so much. I am beyond ecstatic to see that these two are FINALLY at this point where they can have a mutual understanding of each others emotions and thought processes, and still want to work it out. Pika, I want to personally thank you for the fantastic work that you have done with this comic, and i cannot wait for the next page to see where you take us this time.

It also *just* occurred to me that Sarah has yet to use the L word in regard to Jareth, in all(llllllllllll) this time.**
Also-also: Love how this comic is thematically so much about personal responsibility for one's own behaviour as well as personal responsibility for how one's behaviour affects others. THAT, ultimately, is what separates the heroes from the villains, the healthy from the toxic, and love from abuse.
*(And understanding that she grew up with a woman like the one she is describing (potentially) puts a lot of her issues into perspective.)

Nah, more likely her real mother. Novelization expands on the movie subtext that she had an affair and left Sarah's dad to pursue her acting career and on/off boyfriend Bowie lookalike. At the start of the movie, Sarah still loved and looked up to her mother, and her glamorous lifestyle, as seen in her scrapbook

i never thought about this particular tenet of their relationship, but now you've written it's clear how important it actually is. i'm quite glad they've had the conversation, but i'm unsure as to how it will play out in Jareth and Sarah refraining from bringing out the worst in each other.

It's his last, worst resort. If he feels he truly has no chance of a "happy end" romantic outcome and Sarah has made up her mind and would shut him out for good then... maybe he'd prefer to be her hateful antagonist rather than *nothing* to her. But he knows that course of action dooms his hopes of redemption-via-love, and wouldn't consider it lightly - he's a little bit fraught on this page, and tends to lash out a bit hurtfully.
