Description 'Cos there's no school like old school, when it comes to monster slaying. Unfortunately, swimming all the way from 11th century Scandinavia gets you in half-dozen pages too late.

This idea was sparked by some bright cookie in comments to the Monster Hunter arc - sing out for credit. I accidentally deleted a backlog of comments I meant to respond to.

You might notice that, fatally, Sarah has developed some minor resistance to Distracted by the Bulge pants dangly bitsSexy and just about masters the art of maintaining eye contact against all odds.
And I've just realized this is the THIRD time poor Sarah has been exposed to Full Frontal Male Nudity, and none of it has been Jareth's. SulkingGlowering material for His Nibs indeed.

and this is a hurried and a silly one because I am le busy again.

"Best use of Beowulf EVAR!" (italics mine)

Sorry, had to emphasize it, because it gave me a new mental image. I'll fight off Nanny Ogg, Marsha, AND Frankie.

Nekkid, ancient warrior? Yes, please.

Haha! I love how Christine just covers her face like nopenopenope. The entire naked fight scene was ridiculous and Angelina Jolie monster was sooo inaccurate. This movie was truly horrendous. Just.... bad. And made from a pretty sketchy book already, that is really an achievement by Hollywood's quickly falling standards. I'd gladly rather spend two hours reading your comics than go see some stupid remake.

Also, Sarah is totally learning applicable life skills from her association with Jareth. She can completely ignore the nekkid man's nekkidness in order to tell him to go the heck away. I believe that is enough reason for him to stick around. Forever. And ever.

As patchily ridiculous and kinda off that whole movie may be... You kinda dissed both Tolkien and Gaiman there (and a pretty nifty CG dragon). No nerdcookie for you. ^^

DelilahBlueEyes In reply to Pika-la-Cynique [2012-07-11 18:28:08 +0000 UTC]

Sorry if that offends you, but I just cannot abide that movie. I will admit that part of the reason for that is because studying Beowulf in high school was awful. My teacher pretty much wanted to have an affair with half the characters in the book. I meant no disrespect to either, especially Tolkien.

Ironic that Book!Beowulf wins a swimming contest because he was wearing a full set of armor. Not a criticism, just an observation of a part of the original I always found hilarious.

phantomgirl91 In reply to katcount [2012-07-11 16:35:47 +0000 UTC]

Yup in the poem he wore armor but the stupid CGI version had to go and change everything and make him naked when he fights the monster in the hall.

Pika, Thank you for poking fun at that adaptation of Beowolf, you just made my Wednesday

I figured she was making fun of the movie from his accent, but was only sure about Jolie's nakedness in the movie. From now on, I'll just assume everyone in the movie was naked, all the time.

phantomgirl91 In reply to katcount [2012-07-11 20:29:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that accent was pretty terrible. LOL!!! Well that wouldn't be to far from the truth. Beowolf was getting a lot more action in that movie than he ever did in the poem.

Beowulf, you had a Longship AND a seamonster, and lets not forget your winterfling and the draconic spawn of doom that was produced, would it have hurt you too much to have used one of those for transportation? you never were depicted as exceptionally bright.

that aside: awesome to see Beowulf in GnD, great film based on an awesome legend (why Hollywood don't make more movies based on Norse mythologyis beyond me, our culture bloody rocks) Tolkin was an expert on it and used it when writing the Hobbit, a fact that only adds to it's epicness

hope that next week will show the guys noticing him in the vicinity and trying to evict him haha
