Description I started etch a sketching a few days ago and this is what happened. I've always been interested in fantasy-oriented environments, and decided to invent a quasi-aquatic prehistoric kind of scenery. I estimate this took about 3 hours.

No references were used, and no sketching or conceptualizing was done beforehand. I started with one thing and kept building upon it until I felt it was complete.

EDIT (7-28-12): I'm so thankful for being awarded a daily deviation for this piece. It was a labor of love, and my favorite thing I've done all summer.

EDIT 2 (4-14-20): I updated the main file with a better quality photo!

you started.......a few days ago?

no way. this takes years of practice to accomplish.

but, nice job anyway.

This looks like it took about a month's worth of time to create.

I've been etch a sketching for about 16 years, now.

In 16 years, you learn to get a little quicker at etching.

I assure you that this only took a few days, in small sittings.

ohhhh see, I though you said you learned in a few days lol.

Sorry about that.

Still, very impressive work

This is so awesome! My sister says it's fake (), but she doesn't believe that anyone would spend this much time devoted to etch-a-sketching, so she doesn't count!

pikajane In reply to Alyssa-Lioness [2012-07-29 08:10:37 +0000 UTC]

haha I always run into people who don't think my work is real, but regretfully I'm not there to show them the physical etch a sketch. If she's interested, there are a few WIP pieces in my gallery, as well as an image showing my work from a different angle, showing my work is real.

I'll be putting up videos of my work soon as well, so that might also help~

Oh my gosh!! This is just increadable! I didn't know something like this was possible on an etch-a-sketch and on such small scale too, (all I could ever do were endless stairs. XD)...what talent. A very hardy congrats on your DD!

You definitely deserve a DD, but I'm a little suspicious as to whether you actually drew this without a preconceived sketch. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry, but you have to see my point of view too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikajane In reply to Trylledrik [2012-07-29 08:08:45 +0000 UTC]

I understand. I wish I had a means of which to prove it. But alas, since there are no sketches, there is nothing I could show.

Most of my work starts at sketches. This one was fun because I just took a stab at it. I started in the lower left, and kept building layers of vegetation, always trying to keep things fresh and different.

pikajane In reply to AmayaElls [2012-07-28 22:11:31 +0000 UTC]

I drill a hole in the back and I drain out the powder. It sounds simple when I put it that way but you have to be really careful and it takes a long time to get all that powder out~
