I got Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Monday. The game's music blew me away. 8'DAnyway, this Rosalina shade is a Cosmic Spirit, or as others refer to her, Cosmic Witch. She only appears when you're losing too many lives in a galaxy. If you find her, you have the option of asking her for help and she can show you the way to the Star using Cosmic Guide.
BUT.
When you do this, the Star will be a Bronze Star instead. No, I haven't run into her, as many times as I die.
Oh yeah, the whole body was done with the Pen Tool. Shading was by the brushes.
And that background was supposed to incorporate the visible stratosphere of a planet. ><
