Description There's an enormous stack of half-drawn drawings on my scanner/printer. Searching for a specific skeletal in this thing - my printer's run out of ink - I was amazed how much of this shit was there. Oh, and among the better ones, a very, very close-to-finished Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis, so I just did the necessary tweaking and shading to get it done.

It's a fairly well-known thing, so I spare you the introduction. It's got an ugly face and a surprising degree of wrist mobility. Justin Tweet hates Sinraptor's guts for the boring look of the animal, and to me it's Herrerasaurus that just looks ugly. Not in a Lemmy Kilmister-ugly-but-cool-way like an abelisaur does, just startlingly ugly face for a non-avialan dinosaur. Still I like it, it's a very cool beast. It has a very distinct flair, and as macro-ish-predator from dinosaurdom's first days, it sure is impressive.

Yeah, protofeathers, yadda yadda. I'm probably the third one to draw herrerasaurish things with an archaic sort of plumage, after Jeff Martz and dA resident's Smnt2k .

@Smnt: This is the drawing I mentioned when I commented your Herrerasaurus.

Ref by GSP, it's from the pre-Scott Hartman herrerasaur skeletal days.

Not...no not ugly as such, just...well...honestly, I think a dinosaur looks "ugly" if you restore it that way, with structures sticking out of it that don't really make sense and then it just gets...so...ugh...as I always say, a paleoartist is also part makeup artist

Yes, very much so - at least in my case, I am a paleo-make-up artist. You still can't deny its skull looks like a rectangle

A blunt-ended rectangle...yeah it kinda does now that you mention it...or maybe I never noticed it because I was never...interested in this guy..?

Loving the throat pouch and (as usual) the markings!

I don't think its an ugly beast! in fact I always liked its skull shape. Sure, not so many features as other more advanced theropods, but that makes it more distinctive and unique. There's beauty in the simplicity.

Browsing my drawings and the feedback, the Lemmy line sounds kind of sad these days. An imaginary bottle of Whiskey and an imaginary line of speed to him.
