Description
My first tutorial on how to make a cupcake charm.
I hope you enjoy it, it was actually alot of fun trying to teach this.
Any questions, go right ahead. I love helping! <3
Cupcake Tutorial is © 2008 Nikki Buchicchio
If you wish to post it on a website for resources, just ask. It's not hard.
If you want to know why I didn't put a ":3" face on it, because the tutorial it's self was long enough. x3!
[ Edit ] WOW! Thanks so much for the favs/views/comments everyone! I didn't think this tutorial was that great since it's pretty basic and I have better ways to make my cupcakes. Oh well!

Any type of polymer clay. Sculpey is just a brand name.

I just tried making it.... and i totally failed. I tried it 3 times. The first time looked like a Dairy Queen ice cream cone, only in a cup...lol

ha. i use sculpey... but it doesn't work. the first time, i didn't paint it, and it just looks like CRAP. then the second time, i drew on the faces before i glossed it, and the faces bled. then just today, i burnt it. so disappointing.

Well, I use sculpey as well. What was your process exactly? Maybe I tell help and tell you what you did wrong.

Naturally-Quirky In reply to pinknikki [2009-06-02 16:54:01 +0000 UTC]
okay, so this time i just burnt them... pretty understandable. it got covered up when i painted them. i haven't finished them yet, though, so we'll see how they turn out.
but last time, the problem was that i drew on faces with a kind of marker because it was so small i didn't want to try to paint it. and then i put on that lacquer-ey stuff, you know, to make it shiney and not dull. and the faces ran, even though the marker SAID waterproof. and then... i tried a couple things, but i've kind of given up on that batch. but i did just keep one unlaquered and the face STILL smudged. so i guess it was just the marker... i'll be painting on the faces this time. experience is hard.

Well, for small charms I bake it at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.
What kind of lacquer? The chemicals in it might reacted to the marker. Have you tried the Sculpey Gloss Glaze? Or a Floor Varnish?
I don't use a marker regardless for faces. I painstakingly use a fiiine paint brush and black acrylic paint.
I hear sharpie markers work, but I've never used them.

it's a sculpey glaze, so, you know, kind of disappointing. but i guess it was just the marker. maybe i'll try sharpie on one that i don't care about as much. thanks!

I have a question!!!
When you swirl on the icing, won't it make a air chamber inside it and then make the cupcake pop? >:
That's what I'm afraid of, lol. XD;

pinknikki In reply to lillypie528 [2008-09-01 22:18:27 +0000 UTC]
Nah!! That's why I use glue. BUT. I do a new thing now, take a tiny ball of clay and put it on top of the base and wrap the icing around it. <3
My tutorial is old. xD haha.

Ah ha! All you do is take two colored clays [ I only use one since I paint over it.. ] and twist them into eachother. And coil like I do. xD <3
