Description
The doll who doesn't show emotions, while he is screaming for freedom inside...
I mentioned that I was bad at drawing foreshortening so I decided to practise (/*7*)/
This is supposed to be a random doodle... till I added more detail lolz. I hope you like this hair shading style~
The character is my OC Shikiyo. He is a living doll :3 I realized I only drew him three times since I created him 6 months ago T_T
I wonder... Did my style change or his appearance? He looks different from the first time I drew him: sta.sh/01woo37kz2l7

sometimes a leisure sketch could be so inspiring eh 8D
he looks like a marionette tho...not being able to scream for freedom as he always gets controlled by the puppeteer ; w ;

UNNFF-SO BEAUTIFUL
I was instantly drawn in by the way you drew the hair. Such bold, thick lines over an underlying soft gradient. Eye candy
Overall very nice piece! I can see that you're trying hard to practice foreshortening, and I believe this turned out very nice!
Psst, I find it interesting that you draw a doll character for practice, since the way his hands are segmented is actually a great method to practice drawing hands and such XD
Best of luck for you in the future!

Seems like it was not a bad choice to shade the hair like that. To be honest it was really hard to shade the hair for some reason so finally I came up with this xD
I'm glad you think the forestortening turned out good. It was 100% based on my own view since I didn't use references at all. Why? Because I couldn't find what I wanted.
It's a coincidence that I picked this character lol. Actually I'm glad that I did because I find segmented hands and arms easier to draw xD
Thank you a lot for your support <3

lol the sketch, that's how most sketches look though, sketches don't have to be clean they're called sketches for a reason xD
I think his appearance looks different, you've changed up the proportions a bit, his eyes are wider and they're set lower than on the profile pic. So maybe your style has changed? both? A lot can happen in 6 months...
any who, its a great attempt at foreshortening : D Birds eye view is definitely the easier of the two perspectives to draw. Worms eye, the faces never look right ._.
I would say that the forced perspective hand looks a bit flat (nevertheless still a really good hand) along with the arm, which can be fixed with shading make it more round instead of oval
I would've brought his head lower as it's set too high on the shoulders with the extreme forced perspective
his hair ish so beautiful, doesn't really fit in with the rest of the image, but issh so pretty like an ink painting with all those thick defining lines *u*

He is supposed to look 17. I think he looks a bit too old on the older drawing so I fixed it up.
Back then I tend to draw the eyes very high, especially on guys.
Here is an extreme example of a drawing made in 2011: sta.sh/01ollo44at5e
I draw the eyes lower as the years pass by lol.
I have never thried from the bottom view. Maybe I should try it some time xD
Yes I know, I think it's a shading issue. I dunno how to shade it //sobs
I wanted to make it 3/4 top view, not from an extreme angle o_o
About the head, you're right now you've mentioned XD I asked my friends if they could tell something was off.
But nobody could give me critique lol.
Thank you for liking my new hairshading style :3 I did it because it will look more outstanding compared to the painted body.

I agree on you with that.
I used to do it too :0 wow that's some improvement there!
xD I did the opposite, My eyes started out really low and have been working their way up
0.0 WORMS EYE IS HARDER THAN BIRDS EYE it.... it hurts ;A;
You were shading it just fine it was just a matter of shading it the wrong shape. If that makes any sense ._. here sta.sh/0t7wuf97nbp I drew over your image if that was alright to do >.< it was the easiest way I could think to explain it. I'll take it out of my stash and never draw on another picture again if you so choose
the thought crossed my mind that I was being an "art thief" ;w;
but the red represents the shape the arm should've been in and the blue is the curve that the wrinkles and "shading should follow.
I didn't dare attempt the hand ._. it would've been more confusing for you and me and I would just keep studying that hand of yours!
extreme is a relative term, I realize. I was trying to decide on how sharp your angle was drawing the character (the canvas cut off the legs so it was hard >.> )
Its difficult to critique foreshortening because it doesn't have to be entirely right to look nice. and be effective. it's relative to the artist and the audience
Welcome~~~~ You've certainly accomplished what you set out to do!

Thank you! I also can't believe so much changed in just a few years.
I'm really glad my efford of improving paid off.
Hmm... Worms eye is harder? Challenge accepted
Thank you for pointing out the mistake. I thought you meant the arm
and not the edge of his glove.
Feel free to draw over my drawing if you want to point out a mistake
and its easier that way. This doesn't make you an art thief lol.
Thats only when you trace or repost the whole thing claiming you made it.
Haha don't study my art too much, it makes me feel embarassed
I wonder if it's even worth it lol... It feels like you gonna discover more mistakes
once you look closer ;u; But of course you're free to study it... At your own risk haha
I'm used to cut off things which aren't important. Back then I only filled 50% of
the canvas and kept the rest white or non-detailed.
I don't like it when parts are unnecessary blank. Either cut it off or fill it with detail ;u;
If I drew the legs theres gonna me empthy space at the left.
You're right, I see most artist look foreshortening more dramatic than it is.
But it looks really better that way.
I'm glad you think so <3

Welcome~~ and that is specifically why you keep drawings from your youth to compare your growth. I like to look back at old pictures when I'm feeling a little demotivated, and it feels nice to say "I'm glad to be where I am now"!
but, I look forward to seeing your attempt
Pictures can say more than words most often times.
I know, :'> the thought just crossed my mind.
Ah, I won't, I won't! sorry for making you feel embarassed
I just tell you what I see at the first glance. I don't normally draw over images to give advice. I figured since it was something like forced perspective, and its a field that you were unfamiliar with, I thought it better to attack that aspect and help you get on your feet with it. Your art is really pretty to look at though. Even when not studying~
Good point. I agree, adding the legs would've interfered with the composition of the piece. Large undetailed portions get to me too. Especially if its a clothing fabric that doesn't have lots of folds like peacoats. Sometimes I find myself going overboard with it too and have to cut back on it ;w;
Though I find myself drawing the whole body and leaving it that way just so I can analyze the anatomy of the whole body in action. I notice a lot of artists like to do a lot of waist-up pictures. Feet can be annoying to draw xD

Thats the thing I like about dolls. They don't need to fit the human anatomy XD
Really I had throuble drawing the hands, but I realized it would be even harder if they were 'human hands'.

Thank you for the link <3 I have seen this tutorial before and it's explained really well.
The funny fact is I used my own hand as reference and made up the arm for this drawing LOL.
At that time I didn't look up for tutorials. Why? I forgot tutorials excists
I'm glad you like my drawing *-* My foreshortening is bad because I never practise it.
I have drew it once before and it looks horrible. I thought to never do it again
