Description
Was bored today so I thought I'd have a go at designing a wordpress template.I quite like the way it turned out, but of course any comments and critique would be great

And then the glow was done using a custom sparks brush and the smoke from the clouds filter in photoshop.

this isn't a bad setup and i don't see anything blatantly wrong with any of this. you may want to make the top right corner the same as the bottom left (with the transparent photoshop file)
aside from that, you may want to take out the grey stroke on the white left nav text along with making the "If you enjoyed this blog..." text a bit smaller.
adding some more color as accents wouldn't hurt, it's usually best to have 2-3 colors for your design scheme.
one thing you may want to consider is a little less direct inspiration from other work to start to develop your own style
