Looks pretty good! I'd try dithering a bit to blend a shading a little more, though.

At the risk of sounding real stupid, do you know any good dithering methods minus going at it with a 1px brush at random?

Eh. You could run some filters on PS, but they look like crap. Best way to to just do it by hand, and it'll come out looking spectacular.
