Description
Uberexcite! I've finally learned how to animate! And here is my first successful (looping) animation to celebrate! Animating in 3DS Max is actually really simple and I figured it out faster than I thought I would. It will be used in the game as the walking cycle, but I will definitely try to tweak and improve it.

it's quite interesting to see this project is still kicking. now i'm ever more exited to see the full game
However, since i'm also a computer animation student, i can't help but notice a few flaws in the animation. first, the forelimbs seem too stiff. maybe incorporate more movement in them. second, the head is bending at a broken angle and the antenni seem more like sticks. have the head move more and make the antenni more bendy, since they're so thin.
finally, give the character longer strides. the animation seems to be suggesting that to me.
great work though

Thanks for your commentary. A few clear-ups though; I should have mentioned it before.
We will try to give the antenna physics, which means they'll bounce on their own without a need for animating them.
It is a walking animation, and the animal is going to be bigger than it looks. (imagine about Rayman's size if you leave out the antenna.)
Thank you for taking your time to critique my work!

you're welcome
that sounds like a good idea. i keep forgetting about that
but then again, i haven't worked on 3DS Max much
I figured. then could i suggest studying how a rabbit walks? the character looks like it resembles one, so it should behave like one at least a little bit
wow... that's big
You're welcome

Don't worry about rabbit study there. ;D I do plan on animating the lackin as closely to a rabbit's behavior as possible. Plus, I have my bunny Pip to help me out!
In fact, even though the walk animation still needs work, it comes very close to Pip's own walking cycle, as her head moves very little while walking.
Also forgot to mention that they are about as tall as Rayman when in T-pose, not on all fours.

Dude this is amazing. Nice job. Extremely looking foward for this game.
Question: How many people are working on the game ?

Just about 4 people at the moment.

It's nice, I look forward to more, not bad for your first 3D animation also.

I've already reblogged this on Tumblr, but I really need to comment here, the animation is nicely done! Especially for a first one. c: You'll more likely improve with the time.
Also, love the design of this little fella. c: It's adorable!
It's great to see the fangame still being worked on after so many years.
Keep it up, you guys are doing a great job!

Thank you!
Yeah, I originally intended for it to have a yellow belly. But I wasn't that good with texturing yet back then. Now I'm a lot better at that.
I love the bouncing tail too!

=3.
He's too cute beyond words.
Will there also be female versions too?

The species' genders will look alike (like real rabbits), so maybe you're looking at a girl right there.

Hmmm. as a suggestion. Why no place eyelashes on the females?

I think we're good without eyelashes, but the team and I are discussing about perhaps adding slight colour changes instead.

Ok.
You know. I'd love to see some of my Rayman fan characters in your game.

Congratulations, you also learnt to animate!
I did a small 3D animation project but I used a totally different software.

I know this is probably gonna piss you off for me to ask this, but I just gotta: Are the eyes not finished yet, or are they supposed to look like... that?
π: 0 β©: 1
Pipann In reply to Neganium [2014-12-15 06:10:13 +0000 UTC]
They're supposed to look like that.
However, the gif quality wasn't kind to the texture I put on the eyes and in the render I used there was no reflection.Β So that may be why they look so off-putting to you. I would show you the original texture, but the comment system somehow thinks I'm spamming.

Yeah, I can see in the thumbnail that they're supposed to be dark brown- or just brown, at least. They look a little like soulless pits of darkness, so I just had to ask. ^-^; I hope I did not offend; I realized my error after I had already asked...

Pipann In reply to Neganium [2014-12-15 14:38:48 +0000 UTC]
It's all good! I may brighten the eyes a little bit to make the iris a bit more obvious. Distance reasons. They'll be programmed to run off if you approach them. :>

What if you approach them real slow-like? :3c
They're awfully cute lil' things.
