If Marie's future had turned out as her creators had planned (she had all the powers she needed and they were to their full power) this would have been her final battle against Cipher.

Shadow Pokemon can be purified by several means, one of these was to be an ability given to Marie that would allow her to cleanse corruption entirely with ease. Falcon, of course, has no purity left in him as it has long been destroyed by corruption, thus making purification of him impossible by anyone or anything.

Marie, in her final battle, holds back her attack power as she assumes that Falcon is just a pure soul imprisoned by darkness like all the other Shadow Pokemon she fought and freed. However, when Falcon explains to her that he is not, she is stunned in disbelief...and, after seeing Falcon Mega Evolve, she is stricken with an emotion that she'd never felt before...fear.
