Description
Being rather bored today I decided to do some sprite edits with Paper Mario 64 sprites and make them into all of my partners from my fan-project Fortune of Fear.Out of all of them I think Hokey turned out the worst, mostly cause his deely-bobber things on his head just came out kinda wonky. xDDD
My favorites though I think were Pinna and Bloom, they both came out pretty good. :>
Also I just now realized I made Mermor's moon brooch the wrong color, I based it offa his original green one instead of his current red one. Oh well.

Some partners! I was going to have a Piranha Plant, but was too hard to personify... Interesting solution

I just LOVE these characters! They would be awesome to play with in a Paper Mario game!
I totally look forward to this!
There re a couple of things that could be done better (primarily the flags Dennis is holding and the disco-bobbles on Hokey's headband, as a few have already mentioned), but this is pretty solid. Just imagine how they'd look when they're actually animated! It makes me really giddy!
In fact, the same could be said for all of the great Paper Mario Fan Partners out there. Dedicated fans have just so much talent!
Sorry, I sound like such a geek. These characters are wonderful, your story is wonderful, and the series in general is wonderful. Again, looking forward to this!!!

Thanks so much.~
Yeah, as other people have told me and as I've known from the get-go the flags and his deely-bobbers are certainly the worst parts of the whole thing. (It's a bit irritating that I'm getting so much critique on some simple sprites made in an afternoon and not on artwork I actually put time into and want critiquing on xD;;;; but I digress)
Again thank you so much, I'm glad that you and so many others like them.~ :> Don't count on this constantly being updated though- my last hiatus from the project lasted for nearly a year if not longer. xD This whole concept is just something fun to add onto from time to time but not something I'll be constantly working on.~

I like these very much, and I think these turned out brilliantly. My only critique is that you might want to shade the flags just a bit, and maybe use just a few shades lighter colors for the disco balls on Hokey, i feel it will give the shimmery affect you were going for, whlie also giving off that its original color is white. :]
Anywho~ Great job hope to se other cool things :3

Thanks so much.~ I definitely agree on the flags now that I've had a second look at them, they look pretty flat compared to everything else. And I might actually try that out for the disco balls if I ever go back to edit this.
Thanks so much for the input.

Dude, I completely love your partners. You've got such a way at capturing the simplicity and creativity of the games and the style they created.

Thanks! :D My character designs always tend to be more simplistic than most, but it's that simplicity I think that can make a character more memorable.~ <3

Wow, this is amazing! Usually edited paper mario sprites edited look out of place, but this looks so custom and cool! I think King Lynal looks best here.

Professional Reaction:
These sprites mimic the original Paper Mario game's style to a T. None of the shapes seem deformed or out of place (which is usually the case with PM custom sprites) There is quite a bit of self-made shapes such as Pinna's petals and stalk, Bloom's goggles and Lynal's Mace (which has a bit of white background). All around, excellent job.
My Reaction:
OMG OMG! LOL THESE LOOK AWESOMESAUCE ROFL SO EPIC LYNAL'S SPINY MACE IS COOL BRO ROFLMFAO.
No, but seriously. These are really good.

Thank you so much.~ I've done some editing with sprites in the past so this really tested my knowledge of editing and just spriting in general. And thanks for pointing that out, sometimes I forget to cut parts out when there enclosed like that if I'm taking out the white for a transparent backdrop. xDDD I'll probably go back and fix that in a little bit.

Thanks.~ Shading them can be pretty easy so long as you follow parts of where the original sprites were shaded. :> It can be a bit trickier if you just try going from a blank slate to mimic what the natural style of the original sprites have. If that makes sense. xDDD

Kind of does. I hate shading so much, since I'm still inexperienced with it.

I just couldn't think of a good way to make them come out, at least when I finished him, and since I didn't want to spend too much time on all of them I just left it be and moved to the rest. xDDD

Sageroot In reply to Piranhartist [2012-08-12 20:48:35 +0000 UTC]
coudn't you jsut do a few curved lines going sideways, then a few doing downfor the mirror ball look? looks liek one or two lines will be enough OwO

Piranhartist In reply to Sageroot [2012-08-12 21:17:17 +0000 UTC]
I don't exactly get what you mean. xD;;;; Are you meaning like do a sort of tic-tac-toe shape within them, just with the horizontal lines curving rather than being straight? Cause that probably could work-
I'm not worried about going back to fix it at this point, this was mostly just for funsies.~
