Description
alternative title: bleached pinecone (that's literally all it is)Second contribution to 's Bug type collab !
Now this right here is a stellar example that the "game developers are running out of ideas with these new pokemon designs" argument is null and void. Because of this. Pinecone. The pinecone pokemon. What the heck. Someone explain this.
Game Freak, what were you thinking *flips table*
Also dA Muro is giving me trouble again and I can't set it on transparent T_T
EDIT: Transparent background added!

Maybe the entire point of Pineco is to make you wonder why it's a Bug type when it's based on a thing that grows on a plant. What a troll Pokémon. ... Okay, it's a bagworm that lives in a pinecone. But there could have been a bit more effort in the design. :V
Anyways, your weird pinecone looks lovely! The yellow highlights give it some much needed variety in color. :'D

i appreciate it more now that i know its backstory, but a pinecone with eyes a pokemon does not make

I thought some more about Pineco and figured out that I really don't like how it looks like it has massive eyebrows and a nose. That counts as a design element, it's just not cute. xD
Thanks!

Pinecone is actually classified as "Bagworm Pokémon" because that's what it is: a bagworm living in a pinecone. That also explains why it's a bug type! *The More You Know*
Also many Pokémon people find stupid or "they're running out of ideas" actually has interesting stories behind them - there are quite a few Pokémon people misinterpret as something completely different because they're not familiar with Japanese/Asian mythology. For exapmle, one of my biggest pet peevees is when people call the legendary beasts (Entei, Raikou and Suicune) dogs even while they're big cats.

oh. that actually makes it slightly more interesting, but the concept isn't really well translated in the design. it's just a pinecone with eyes. maybe they should have added more bug features
i know some pokemon have backstories that are much more interesting than their actual designs, but for some i feel like even an interesting origin can't justify a poor design. just look at dugtrio D:
i never understood how anyone could call them dogs. raikou has stripes for goodness' sake, how can someone think it's a dog

I personally think many old Pokémon don't have *that* interesting origins/designs, like Tauros is just a bull or Magnemite and Magneton are a bunch of magnets. There are some interesting ones tho, like Exeggcute is based on certain type of seeds that kinda look like eggs and Exeggutor is based on trees that grow from those seeds (and the Alola form is based on a related tree that grows very tall).
imo Game Freak has upped their game with interesting designs and origins past few generations, like I don't think there's any not interesting Pokémon in Alola at all.
