I think I can explain that Valerie's constant run-ins with brainwashing, at least as a theory. The first few times was just bad luck on her part, but now, she has grown an dependency to the pleasurable rush of dopamine caused by falling into trance (and whatever else comes with it, usually pervy stuff, I assume) and unconsciously tries to fall back into situations that she knows will get her brainwashed caused by the latent after-effects of her mind control falling under the radar of her sense of reason. Think of it like a post-hypnotic suggestion mixed with a fetish mixed with an addiction. After all, hypnosis just makes you do things you wanted to do deep down, even if it ends up controlling those wants eventually; what if all Valerie wants, deep down, so deep down she may not even be aware of it, is to be controlled?
