Yeah this is pretty much how it went down X'D these events don't happen at the same time.

EDIT: sky learned how to fly before Ni... In fact sky learned how before any other foal did his age. Rainbow made sure of that! The exact opposite for Niagara though, she was the last in her class (cheerilee's class) to fly. She finally learned after nagging her mother over and over and over again to teach her. Eventually Fluttershy gave in.

(Sky's colors came out a bit too dark.. but wat ever )

Fluttershy takes baby steps to teaching her daughter... to start off, by observing butterflies.
one day she takes her daughter behind the cottage past the chicken pen, to a field on the edge of the ever free forest.

Niagara: hey mom, where are we going?

Fluttershy: we're going to a field

Niagara: why? details! >w<

Fluttershy: well Ni, today I will teach you to fly...

Niagara: Really! Alright! you don't know how long I've been waiting to do this.. I mean come on mom every Pegasus at school already learned....

Fluttershy: oh sorry honey... well were starting now..

Niagara:.... Even SkyRocket and he is only a year older than me! Its only because is mom is the greatest flyer in all of equestria! so no wonder he's a natural but all he does is brag. What a blockheaded Jerk!

Fluttershy: oh my.. Ni, sweetie it's not nice to call other ponies names... ok

Niagara: Ok... hey where's dad?

Fluttershy: oh... well you see, honey, he couldn't come, cause we are observing the butterfly Migration...

Niagara: yeah and.. wait were observing butterflies... Mom! how will that get me in the sky?!

Fluttershy: slowly but surely... ^w^

Niagara: Ugh!... ok fine!

Fluttershy: Oh look! a flock of them! *fluttershy slowly trots over to them*

*Ni closely behind her mom, rolls her eyes*

Niagara: Wow that's a lot mom!

*Fluttershy holds up her hoof up and a butterfly lands on it*

Fluttershy: look Ni *the butterfly flutters to Fluttershy's nose as she crouches down to her daughter*

Niagara: yeah its cute ^w^

Fluttershy: no no no did you see it fly... all you have to do is flap your wings like a butterfly

Niagara: umm.. mom are you sure?...

Once her son was old enough, RainbowDash immediately taught him to fly, and his father already taught him the important things to know when flying.

Rainbow: Alright Son today's the day you fly!

Sky: Really!!! Alright! that's what I'm talking about!!

Rainbow: haha yeah! now get on my back, we're gonna need more room than this cloud house..

Sky: uhhh... ok *hops on his mother's back*

*rainbow takes off and flys up too a high solitude cloud, and lands*

Rainbow: this looks like a great place to teach, eh son?

Sky: ummm... I guess, kind high though..

Rainbow: pshhh! you call this high? Alright you ready to learn?

Sky: B..But mom dad says it's best if I practice by taking off from the ground...

Rainbow: Please *rollseyes* what does your father know. Trust me kid, no one is better than your mother and I know what I'm doing... for Pete's sake I taught your aunt Scootaloo!!

Sky: yeah I guess you're right..*sighs* okay I trust you...

Rainbow: I KNOW I'm right... k now spread your wings
*sky spreads his wings*

Rainbow: good! now walk to the edge of the cloud

*Sky does what his mother tells him to do, looks down and gulps*

Sky: al..alright..

Rainbow: geeze don't be so nervous..

Sky: now what?!

Rainbow: alright... Now jump Off!!

Sky: What?!! Are you Crazy?!!

Rainbow: Either you jump off on your own.. Or I Push you!
