The fight had been intense, but in the end it was savagely decisive. Two girls, rivals since childhood, had found themselves facing each other in the pit.

The dark-haired musician lived by her craft and her combat. The blonde student's vast knowledge would take her far in life, but never satisfy an unexplainable thirst for the ring.

The student had lost the fight. She lay half-conscious on the mat, weakly hoping her opponent would accept dominance in the pit as a final victory. That hope slipped away as arms hooked under her own, and she felt herself being lifted off the mat.

The musician held her rival upside-down for nearly a minute, a small tingle of uncertainty resting in the back of her head as her beaten opponent weakly whispered her insisted submission.

"She wants mercy," thought the musician, "but I'm not done yet. She's always had her smarts, and I'm not walking away until I've taken that from her!"

The student dropped headfirst towards the ground.

"DUH!!"

Years of study, careful planning, and knowledge exploded into a sprawling mess of mental porridge as the student's head cracked down onto the unforgiving mat. An obliterated expression was frozen on her face for several seconds after her humiliating final cry. The student's tongue hung slack as her eyes half-closed. Her opponent knelt behind her upturned form, holding the beaten girl in place. Then, she released her, watching the blue-clad fighter flop facedown onto the mat. One of the student's feet twitched lightly a few seconds later, but soon her only movement was her labored breathing.

The musician quickly left the ring, feeling strangely unsatisfied and empty. Her opponent would eventually recover physically, but her career as a student lay smashed and shattered where her head was crushed against the cold pit floor.
