That's my philosophy as well. I have to say it SEEMS harder than it actually is, however it needs some commitment. Take a few days to research the basics, get t know our softwar, find a a good simple piece of art (of your own)... that's half the battle really!

No worries. I think I'll be doing similar in 2011. I've only ever dabbled lightly with colouring before but I would like to be able to pencil, ink and colour my own pieces even if they aren't going to be of the standard of some of the other guys on here.
