After seeing this piece today, I thought to myself "Oh dear, there are sooo many things about this that bug the hell out of me! It's almost unbearable!", and thus I set to work on this here remake.So much silly shading, unnecessary colours, strange AA and general laziness in the original one. These remake pieces are great for seeing how much one has improved. There's just under a year between this and the original one, but the difference is still quite noticeable.

Actually, I only changed about 3 colours, the real trick was to remove a bunch of unnecessary colours that only made it more muddy (the new one has 16 colours where as the old one had 32). It's a prime example of getting carried away with adding new colours.Ā
When it comes to AA (and dithering for that matter), less tends to be more. Something else to note about anti-aliasing is to remember that the colour that usually works the best is something that you wouldn't necessarily think would work, if that makes any sense (for example, take a look at the AA in this thing by the always amazing oceanscented, and you'll perhaps be able to understand what I'm trying to say ). Trial and error is the key phrase here.
I don't know if you've stumbled upon this tutorial before, but it's an excellent one that covers pretty much everything important there is to pixel art, compiled by some extremely talented people. I know it has helped me a lot along the way.
