I especially like the background here - not because it is focal (I dont think it is!), but this sort of scope and city-in-debris look is something I have always had trouble with, and I am enjoying to study it!

It's a neat trick I learnt from Feng Zhu, made a custom brush that is sort of "structurish" with a bit of scatter and size jitter. Paint the buildings in three layers, add a bit of fog between the layers, and throw in some desaturated building textures on overlay, play with the opacity and erase pieces with a soft brush to blend 'em in.
Then add detail as usual...

Nice! I will try that when I get around to doing some demolished buildings (not much call for that yet lol!) But until this point I have just been drawing the damned things on their own layers and blending them in, rather than using some sort of technique! >.<
Every now and then I pick up a copy of Advanced Photoshop or something like that and learn a new trick - and I'm always like, WTF why didn't I think to do that?!? AAARGH
