Description This is my very first photoshop photo manip. I am not sure I am really happy with it and will probably revisit it in the future, but right now I am really just learning the basics.

What I am happy with: the way everything came together. I found the most perfect stock for my ideas! Ty bunches to those wonderful devianart members that have shared this amazing stock!!!!

What I am definitely displeased with: the spiderwebs and the spider himself... (this has nothing to do with the paintbrushes I just couldn't get them to work with me the way I wanted them to)

Don't forget to visit the amazing stock used to create this manipulation!

My first with PS Elements 7, I'm okay with it, I noticed some errors after I had already posted it, but I am the kind of person who doesn't mind showing off her flaws. Granted there is a big part of me that wants some of my ancient drawings to disappear, but we all learn from our mistakes.

Glad you think so! I love how the bed underneath her came out wispy, cloud like and the colors. I hope I saved back far enough I can revisit it.

Nice work! The amethyst gives it a very mystical feel! For your first manip this is very impressive

You mentioned you weren't happy with the spider or the webs, so I have some suggestions for both (although I'm not sure if it will be possible to change the web much, if you merged the layers). The web is a little distracting because of the double-image. Remember when working with brushes to try to use them creatively, because the human eye is naturally drawn to straight lines and (more importantly) repetition. I think if you could remove one of the overlapping webs that it may improve the scene. On another thought, you could always try adding more webs, but at different angles, flipped and obviously smaller, in the background behind the large webs the spider is standing on. This would create a better sense of depth for the background too, further intriguing your viewers If you aren't sure how to flip or rotate brushes, its easy! Just paste the brush on a seperate layer (larger is usually better), then duplicate and modify that Layer however you want. It takes a little longer, but the result is almost always better

As for the spider...I ahve to give you credit here because I'm not really sure which effects you've applied to it My suggestion would be to make the colours a little closer to the original photo (not because the spider doesn't look realistic, but so you can use it as a base. Basically, try adjusting the transparency of the current spider a little (maybe reduce it to 70 or 80%, and place a copy of the original spider (before the colour-change) underneath. This will give you the interesting colours without the transparent look from cropping.

Honestly though this is very well done, especially for your first manip!
Nice work and thanks for using our stock!

Dan

PS-Just curious, what program are you using?

Well it was my first Photoshop Manip I was using a really outdated Paint Shop Pro (7 I think) and I was used to it.

I now have PS Elements 8 and I am kinda blustering my way through it a bit. I'm having problems with distance proportion a bit I think. Er...and I can't recall if I was wearing my reading glasses at the time...so there's that too. I think with the spider maybe I should have attempted to paint it or something. I need to figure out burn tools and what not. I got a lot of PS books from the library so hopefully I will get a better perspective. My husband was really getting annoyed with me because I kept yelling at the computer lol.

I did flip some of those webs but I was making it harder on myself since I was used to PSP. I was copying the layer, pasting to a new image, rotating it there then applying it....

Honestly I think I just tried to rush because I was excited about it.

Er, btw can I ask you something odd? I know how to link account avatars now, which is for example iconpixiebutt14 is like this
but how do you do the emoticons? Also where do all the other cute icons come from for example and would stamps be stampthename with the colons around it?

Thank you for all the constructive criticism and moral support!

yeah I definitely understand part of the icons now

Ah...that makes sense. I've used PSE5 in highschool and now I use Gimp - there's a difference there for sure!!

Haha I know the yelling at the computer effect - Gimp crashes occasionally too. But from what I've head about PS, it's best to save multiple copies. Like, instead of just pressing 'Save' when you're finished part of your manip, click Save As and save it under a different name. Not only does this mean you have backups in case you want to revert to an older version, but I've heard that sometimes PS will randomly crash and actually corrupt the PSD file - so having a backup is really nice Hopefully you can get the tools and features sorted out though - its a lot easier then

Ah...that does sound like a lot of work...

LOL of course! When you click 'Reply' or are writing a comment, there is a link (either in the bottom left or right of the comment window) called "Emoticons". Click that and it will load a window showing you all the syntax (code) for adding emotes! Like, :emotecode:

The PLZ accounts are a little more difficult, but in theory they work the same. PLZ accounts are literally just... :iconnameofplzaccountplz: - just like you would to add people's avatars, you just have to remember to add the 'icon' and the 'plz' on the end. Stamps though require a little more from you. See, to add a stamp, a person is actually adding a 'thumb' code, for example the thumb code for Ice Spider's Captive would be: :thumb255232042:
The problem is, in order to put this code in your description or a journal, you have to have a subscription, which kind of sucks.

Hope that helps

sorta I don't know what a PLZ account is though...confused me there. I would honestly love to have a subscription but until today I had only $3 to my name. I mean that literally! I need a new job, blah. I see all these prints and exclusive stock I want to buy and I just have to groan and forget about it. <--don't ask I just thought it looked odd lol

PLZ Accounts are simply secondary accounts people make purely to use the icon. For instance in theory you could make a secondary account (such as pixiebutt14plz) with the same avatar as your real account, only flipped - so the you could have and , only with the first eye facing the other way. Your real account (the one you're using now) would be the one you use the view art and talk to people on, with the pixiebutt14plz account being nothing more than a dummy account.

Some people have LOADS of dummy accounts! DeviantArt has a loophole in its coding that allows people to change their log-in email, so in theory, you could use the email/username you use to log in to your account, for say...10 PLZ accounts. As long as the passwords are different for each one (add 1, 2, 3 etc... to your password), you could create an unlimited number of 'dummy accounts' to use the avatars. Using my example... - this account is a dummy account someone created called eeeeeplz. There is nothing on the account except the avatar

Yikes, $3 isn't much. Hopefully you can find another job soon - I know they're nightmares to find.
