Wow this is absolutley amazing! You took the Mad Hatter's insanity to a new level and I love it! I love how you chose darker colors for the backround so he would stand out. His bow tie looks so divine as the bright colors are on the dark! You did such a fantastic job on his hair! It was the first thing I noticed when I saw this picture! The vibrant orange looks beautiful! The make-up looks so engaging and real this looks like Johnny Depp himself! I like how his hat is just right, not to much not too little, but perfect! The little details like his lipstick on the cup, the eyelashes and eyebrows etc. His expression makes me wonder what's going through his head! The blood coming off of the corner of his lip brings image to the word insane. This piece is down right breath taking! Great Work!

I can't even give you critiques anymore, I am simply just too taken away by you're art. This will most likely be the last critique I am able to hand out to you because I am simply sent wordless and breathless by your art. The fact that you even made this look like Johnny Depp himself! You did so well on the hair and the facial structures. However, more of the detail from his hat could have been added. Just a few, I do realized how detailed this piece already is. The background is also very well fitting. You kept it simple and it does not distract the viewer's eyes from the artwork itself. You are amazing at what you do, and you should keep doing it. I'm give you a hand of applause!

So, first I'd like to talk about the colors. The red and blues around his eyes contrast really well together. People might say," Well, blue and red are a simple contrasting color that's been well known for a long time!!!Hurhurhur..." Too bad! You made it new and work brilliantly. Also the Hatter's tie against the background is tacky, which follows the theme.
The only thing I can find that you should improve on is...the hair. I think that you could have made it all yours if you added a couple of whacky colours to the hair, such as blue and purple. It makes the Hatter look more tacky, which I believe is his style~
When I make the impact 5 stars, I make it by facts~ So many deviants are writing stuff along the lines of," Great work!" And many people love the works and colors, including myself.
The last thing I'd like to talk about is your technique. Using Watercolors and pastels is hard in my opinion. But in reality, you really pulled it off amazingly. All the colors including the tie, the skin, hair, the hat, and the background add up the picture to make a wonderful masterpiece~

I know a good art when I see one. And this one, has got to be one of 'em! I've seen creepier pictures of this mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland, and trust me, I've seen worse, but this is just creepy. Haha. He's like "Don't mess with me, if you don't want your blood as my next tea. LOL
Also, is that blood dripping from his lips? Did he just ate something or wut? XD Nice texture, especially in the hair and the vibrant colors near the eyes.
May I suggest you make him smile later on? e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Big Grin)"/> I'd really like to see him bring out the craziness that is within him
By the way, why is a raven like a writing desk?

Cheers!

Ok so my rateings : Let me explain
Vision:
You get it perfectly in your mind how you want to see it, completely wonderful, Love the color, the design, and u gave it your all.
Orginality:
You went for someone elses idea, The mad hatter was someone elses idea, you could think of your own crazy character and do this kind of art.
Technique:
Ive see so many of the same type of drawing, the same shading methods, drawing style, color mixing. U could have done something like a pastel or shape style. Stand out from other artists!
Impact:
It left me pleased, Lots of color to look at. 1 of my fav movies. Really good. I like it even though a few tips could go farther into it.

I don't think this was really a fair analysis, for two reasons:
1. I don't think you should have docked her originality for drawing an unoriginal character. Why? Because the purpose behind the painting was to draw a character that everyone was familiar with. Now if she'd said "Here's MY interpretation of how the Mad Hatter should look," and then done the same painting, I can see it. But she wasn't attempting to make an original character.
2. I don't think her technique should be docked because she didn't use a different one. I feel that the grading of her critique should be based on how well it was executed, not which one she chose. She executed this very well, for the style she chose.
Just my opinion.

This is a very nice piece. The utensils were used nicely, and you really nailed the shading on his head. However, the eyes look more Gothic than they should be. The eyes should look crazy. His head looks a little bit small as well. Besides these very minor flaws, I think that this is amazing. I could never do anything this good (I seriously am NOT a good artist). You have skills, and those skills were perfectly applied in this deviation. Do not worry about the flaws; they do not affect the likability of the image. Although the Mad Hatter looks slightly different, you did create a masterpiece.

yeah time to do a proper critique because the other ones are not.
The image is very much in the centre, but my eyes are drawn to the eyes and interesting make-up you have created on him. The many shades of blue, purple, yellows in his scarf brighten up his outfit. There is some nice detail done in the hair, nice dark shades.
You have used heaps of dark colours and a mixture of bright colours, i feel as if i am in one of mad hatters bad dreams. The face shape is interesting, but i feel it could have been a little bigger and wider. The cheek bones are not to bad, it give him a bit of character and looks like made hatter because he does have strange cheek bones.
This most certainly looks like mad hatter. The tea cup gives it its mad hatter the Alice feeling because they always have tea parties, and i like how you didn't do the tea cup clean, because wonderland isnt a very happy place, its rather dark and dirty.
The hand is very good and i like how he is not grabbing the tea cup with his whole hand but just gentle. The eyelashes make him more scary and crazy.
To me the colours of the image is what makes it the most interesting of all, he mixture of greens and blue in the background make him stand out.
You have added much detail into the picture, and i like how you used water colours, this would have been a very difficult peace and you have shown true potential and talent. keep up the good work.

I think this is an amazing piece i love it. I agree with the others the eyes are not crazy enough. I think they are to narrow. He looks too sane and angry. I like the blood on the chin. I love the head shape and how the hair stands out. The tie is dark with a burst of color i like that. I like the really really tiny smirk on his face. I like the tone of the skin. You are very talented and i can't wait to se more of your work. I'm going to watch your work.

I do like the style this piece is constructed in, with your varied skill of watercolor brushes, etc.
I disagree with how you drew the Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter is, by his name, Mad! He shouldn't be frowning seriously as if he has just noticed several armed men aiming at a puppy. Your skill is great, i just disagree with how you portrayed the Hatter. Perhaps this is just me, Perhaps you have chosen to portray a darker, more serious side of the hatter.
You have a good way of drawing in a crowd as I'm actually a writer and am not interested in watercolor art.
You may have changed my perspective though.
Regardless of the slightly negative things i have said, great piece. (:

OH GUESS WHO Blue again. And I had to do one Mad hatter since he is awsome and I love him. I love the way you did his hair they kinda look like wings in a way. As usual I cant see a flaw in this and I have been looking at it for sometime now. I would so buy this on a shirt and a card for my friends . AND GOODNESS those eyes finally green not blue (NOT SAYING i dont like blue but you use it alot so this is a nice change that is all my dear) I always look forward to your work and will be waiting for more amazing things from you. ~Blue

This is a very beautiful peace of artwork , I do hope to see more from you on this deviantart account. Because of how nice it looks I will watch you on deviantart to keep up with the artwork , but if I were to suggest something it would be to make the eyes in the same position on both because the left one is a bit more to the right then the right one is (my right) , all in all great picture I love it and hope to see more from you.Have a nice day and a good week ~Chris G Nixon

The only thing that I see that needs change are the eyes. You just need to make the eyes look crazier. Other than that I have no other critique. The other thing that I love is the tie and how colorful you made it. The little trail of red blood running down his chin from his lip makes me very curious as to what he is thinking about at the moment. Lovely job on the hair and facial structure as well! I feel like the background sorta contrasts the mood that he is in. that was just brilliant by the way.
