3rd Person POV
Ariel spotted Kaiden in the air on his Wind Rider, his face hidden beneath his helmet. Her fingers twiddled in anxiety as she watched him land on Alfea’s grounds, the air blowing her hair away from her face. She took a breath and mustered every bit of composure in her as Kaiden took off his helmet. Ariel smiled and waved, forcing her nerves away. He hopped off the bike and tossed his (new) helmet on the seat as he walked over to her.
"Hi” Ariel said, giving a weak smile as she eyed Kaiden closely.
“Hi” Kaiden replied, meeting her gaze, smiling. She could tell in his eyes he was anxious.
“How are you?”
“I’m good. You?”
“I’ve been well”
“Cool” Kaiden replied. They both stared at each other for a long time, before Ariel broke the gaze, making the moment even more awkward than it already was. Butterflies flew in Ariel’s stomach.
“Do you…” Kaiden hesitated, not wanting to sound too eager, “Do you wanna take a walk with me?” He finally asked, scratching the back of his neck, slightly nervous of Ariel’s reaction.
“Sure…” Ariel hesitated. “That’d be great” she said, putting every bit of enthusiasm, meeting his gaze once again. He motioned her towards him as they began walking towards the edges of Alfea. Ariel stayed quiet as they walked, not wanting him to notice her waning composure. She hated the quiet, but didn’t know what to say. It went on like this for 5 painfully awkward minutes; having walked into the outer forests near Alfea.
“Ariel…is there something you want to tell me?” Kaiden said, finally breaking the silence.
“What do you mean?” Ariel said, trying and failing to feign innocence.
“I know you’re not much of a conversationalist, but I also know you hate when things get…”Kaiden hesitated.
“Like what?” Kaiden shot her a look of slight annoyance.
“Awkwardly silent” he admitted.
“I…uh…I don’t really know what to say, right now” Ariel replied, frowning and she bit her lip. “I’m sorry” she said, looking up to meet his gaze once more. He turned to face her, searching her face. She looked down at her twiddling thumbs.
“Is there something wrong, Ariel?” Kaiden questioned. Now his stomach had butterflies.
“There’s nothing wrong, Kaiden” Ariel muttered, willing it to be true.
“Are you sure? Because I’m worri-”
“I said I’m fine, Kaiden” Ariel said sternly, quickly walking away before he could see her calm start to break. She quietly took a gulp of hair, trying to calm her nerves. Kaiden waited a second before walking towards her, hesitatingly grabbing her hand with his. Ariel slowly brushed him off, clasping her hands. His face flashed with hurt before he quickly regained his composure.
“See? There’s something wrong” Kaiden pointed out, standing before her. She slowly met his gaze, barely staying calm. He frowned, worried. She opened her mouth before closing her mouth, not knowing what to say.
“Ariel” Kaiden said, his voice low. He grabbed both of her shaking hands now in his hands, willing her to look at him. She slowly looked upward onto Kaiden’s face. He searched her eyes; he made note of her noticeable nervousness.
“Did I do something wrong?” Kaiden said quietly, looking directly into Ariel’s eyes. She flinched in his intense gaze.
“You didn’t do anything, Kaiden” Ariel said, her eyes pleading Kaiden not to question her anymore. His expression changed from worry to sadness when his memory sparked.
“Is this about what happened last week?” he questioned. Her gaze lowered. He slowly snaked his arms around her and put his chin on her head in comfort. She hesitated before allowing herself to relax, but he could tell she was still on edge.
“Ariel…I’m sorry” he said, not sure what else to say at the moment. She looked up at him, frowning.
“It’s not your fault, Kaidey” she insisted.
“True. But it still has everything to do with me”
“I don’t think anyone would willingly have a dark spell cast on their minds, Kaiden” she joked weakly. His eyebrows furrowed, not amused. She looked away from his gaze, slightly embarrassed.
“Seriously, Ariel” his face softened. “I don’t want you to be afraid of me, and I didn’t realize how you felt about all this. I’m really, really sorry” he said apologetically. Ariel’s face lowered onto his chest once more.
“I’m sorry too, Kaiden” she muttered into his chest. His face softened into a small smile. He slowly rested his other hand onto her lower back as she slowly looked up at his face. He hand softly went to her face, cradling her cheek. His fingertips lightly brushed the back of her neck. She didn’t try brushing it away.
“This sucks” Kaiden quietly chuckled as his face lowered to brush his nose with hers. Her eyes lowered to his lips before quickly looking at his eyes again. He felt her blush against his palm. They both smiled. His face slowly lowered to hers, tilting as her hesitated, waiting to see if Ariel pulled back. Ariel stood on her toes as she met him halfway, melding her lips with his. She melted as Kaiden’s arms tightened around her waist. Her blush deepened.
So neither of them noticed when Kaiden’s hand unconsciously and slowly drifted towards the dagger in his waistband of his pants. Something in his mind clicked before everything went blank.
Tigress was extremely uncomfortable.
Her hands stung after both climbing and hanging on to the tree with rough bark, and she needed to pee, like, really badly. It didn’t make it any more comfortable as she watched their…err…intimate moment. She desperately wanted to look at away (she wasn’t too proud sneakily watching her friend’s date, after all) but something in her gut told her to keep watching. She trusted her instincts; it’s the same instincts that helped her complete so many successful heists in Buio, after all.
The hairs in the back of her neck raised; something bad was about to happen.
Tigress watched in confusion as Kaiden’s hand left his back and reached for an object at his waistband. Her razor-sharp vision saw the muscles in his forearm tighten; he was gripping something.
What’s in his hand? She wondered in confusion. She raised her guard even higher, and alarms in her head went off.
Ok, he’s pulling out something, she noted in her head. Wait-is that a specialist dagger!? She questioned, her internal alarms now ringing in her ears. She noticed Ariel’s body stiffen as the tip of the dagger suddenly brushed the back of her neck. She watched in horror as he suddenly grabbed her neck and forced her onto a tree. Ariel shrieked in terror, her eyes on the dagger now at her neck as Kaiden’s face contorted to a blank frown. She gasped for breathe, clawing at his vice-like grip.
No, no, no, no, no!-Tigress thought, the alarms in her mind now screaming as her body suddenly jumped from the top of the tree. Adrenaline raced into her bloodstream as she sprinted towards her friend’s direction.
Ariel’s eyes widened in terror as her boyfriend suddenly pinned her to a tree, his specialist dagger pressed against her throat. She clawed at his hands weakly, desperately tried to get oxygen into her lungs again, but proved to be futile in his vice-like grip. She whimpered, her vision beginning to blur as she watched his face turn blank, eyes furrowed, as if this were simply a chore.
In her blurred peripheral vision, she saw a blur of blue before the grip suddenly loosened around her neck. She gasped for air, her eyes burning as she took in big, painful gulps of air and rubbed her neck. She looked down at the figure on the group before she recognized the blue hair.
Tigress, she recognized. In their back of her mind, she didn’t know whether to be grateful or angry. She didn’t think much of it however-there were currently more important things to worry about. She looked down at the ground and saw nothing, before looking to her left and saw Tigress and Kaiden circling each other, Tigress growling and Kaiden’s attention now totally focused on her. She looked deadly calm; like the fleeting moment of being in the eye of a hurricane before one saw destruction. If possible, her eyes widened in terror; her mind scrambled. She was frozen in fear, not knowing what to do.
NO! DO NOT PANIC!, she thought, forcing herself to take a deep breath and quickly sort through her thoughts. Think, think, think, think!, She thought, willing herself to think of a solution…and fast. She eyed the pair circling each other. Before she even knew what was happening, Tigress lunged towards Kaiden, fist stretched far behind her as she swung and Kaiden caught it easily. Ariel’s stomach dropped-she couldn’t bear to see her friend get hurt.
And before she even knew it, she reacted.
“Fidelix: Magix Winx!” she shouted, before crossing her arms and transforming.
Tigress didn’t realize Ariel had transformed-she was preoccupied with taking down Kaiden, after all-until she heard “Diamond’s Glow!” and Kaiden was suddenly blasted off his feet with an energy blast. She looked up at the sky and saw a glowing figure in orange; her eyebrows furrowed-she looked as focused and ready; too many times before had she seen Ariel totally freak out in these type of situations.
Tigress had never felt so proud.
She eyed from the ground as Kaiden as he jumped to his feet from five feet away, seemingly unaffected as he lunged towards Tigress. She used his momentum and her feet to push him away, tossing him over her head as he landed painfully with a thud on his back. She then jumped to her feet.
Kaiden quickly recovered once more, jumping to his feet also as he grabbed the dagger next to him and pushed the button that turned it into a spear.
Suddenly, Tigress felt time moved in slow-motion.
In a flash, he aimed the spear towards Ariel in the sky. Before she even registered what happened, Tigress lunged for him, he having thrown the spear before her body made contact with his. She heard a distant thunk; she dared to look over at Ariel to see the spear had deflated off her shield before she saw the spear was then diverted at her.
She quickly dove far to the side to see the spear had landed where her head had been. She exhaled in relief, her heart racing.
She warily eyed Kaiden as she saw he had gotten up again, already up and grabbing the spear. She scrambled to her feet, having landed on her arms, before she dove to the ground and performed a swift roundhouse kick, therefore effectively knocking him to the ground. He once again, unaffected, got up once again and lunged at her.
Doesn't he ever get tired?, she pondered as she got up and grabbed his fist, using the momentum to flip him over her shoulder. He used that moment to try kneeing her in the jaw; she dove to the side with a hold on his side. They both ended up on the side, although Tigress now had the upper hand again. Ariel quickly flew to the ground, her hands clenching as she stomped towards Kaiden.
Kaiden had tried to scramble to his feet again; however, Ariel had already shouted “Iron Fist!”, her fist glowing as she swung. Tigress heard a bone-sickening crush in his jaw as his head snapped to the side. His body went slack; he was knocked unconscious. Tigress eyed Ariel in shock, with a twinge of pride showing on her face. Ariel met Tigress’s face with the shock, except with a twinge of dread. Ariel grimaced.
Ariel cradled her fist that had, just a second ago, connected with her boyfriend’s face. She eyed him on the ground, her blood rushing as blood tricked out of his mouth, passing over the corner of lip; the lips which were starting to puff up. She met Tigress’s gaze, which both matched her surprise, except with a twinge of pride mixed into the expression. She tried to give her a weak smile but was only able to form a grimace.
“Is he dead?” Ariel questioned, her voice shaking with fear. Had she just killed her boyfriend? Tigress shrugged, getting to her feet before kneeling and putting two fingers to a vein on his neck. She shook her hear ‘no’. Ariel exhaled in relief, but her knees became suddenly weak.
With the adrenaline leaving her body, she finally noticed the pain in her fist.
“Owww” she groaned, biting her lip. No one had told her that punching someone hurt you as much as it hurt them. Tigress flashed her look of worry, eyeing Ariel’s swaying figure.
Ariel groaned as her knees gave out under her; she fell to the floor with a thud. The adrenaline finally left her completely, leaving her feeling completely exhausted and drained of energy.
I think…sleep….I can’t-, Ariel thought before her head hit the ground as she fainted.
