In service as of 1946 and 1947 following the formation of the Philippine Air Force, all are ex US Army Air Corp and Royal Australian Air Force used, in a form of military aid. C-47s became its principle transport of the AFP. The plane is also notable for its 1957 plane crash killing late President Ramon Magsaysay and several other of his cabinets in Mt. Manunggal, Cebu.In the late 1960s and throughout the 70s, 12 C-47s were converted to the AC-47 Spooky variant equipped with Miniguns and M2 Heavy Machine Guns as well bombs and it played in a role during the insurgency against Moro and communist rebels during the authoritarian regime of late President Ferdinand Marcos.
C-47s soon were later put out of service in the 1980s. Throughout its decade service, more than 30 C-47s were in service with the Philippine Air Force.
