Description Not much to say... coelacanths with a touch of placoderms.
Yupp.

The relicanth is a so called ”living fossil”, a type of pokémon that evolved millions of years back and hasn’t changed much in design since then.
Not much about them is known; not only are they rare but they live in the depths of the ocean.
No light reaches down where they live and the relicanth is completely blind. Hard armour covers their skull and jaws; this may partly serve as protection but they are believed to mostly use it when feeding upon molluscs () and echinodermatas (such as staryus) where the plates helps to crush these hard, bottom living organisms.
The pattern covering the relicanths body is a bit of a mystery, but it’s speculated that they occasionally go to more shallow, warmer waters, maybe to spawn. There the speckled skin serves well as camouflage against the bottoms where they feed. The red spot is said to attract cleaner fishes such as remoraids.

nice pic. yeah i kinda like your concept of them being blind since the eyes on relicanth in the games is kinda hard to tell between its real eyes and the lines on what i would consider the eyebrow line. good job.

Clever interpretation of its spot. I love coelocanth, so I loved relicanth the second I saw it. You did a great job on it too.

Is this your last pokemon? I'd be sort of sad if it was, but I'd understand if you're retiring. I found it an effort to do much less spectacular drawings, so you have every right to stop with your project.

Still, it would be awesome to see more of these.

This is Octoboy signing off!

Very, very awesome. Keep up the good work.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a placoderm?

Thank you!
Placoderms is an extinct kind of fish, I think they're sometimes called armoured sharks. One thing that is typical for them is that their head where covered with hard plates :3

this is a really good idea.
Are you gonna make an evolution like gyrados?
like a blind, hard headed, spiny, spotted serpent?
maybe enhance the relevance of the red dots?

I really like this! The detail is very neat indeed. There is one Pokemon I wanted to request you draw, but I forget what it was... I"m sure it shall come to me eventually!

I love the detail about the creature, as well as the drawing itself. Really well done piece, the great coloring and shading make it seem more like you drew this from an actually creature. Keep up the work.

Hehe, just looks like a regular ol' Relicanth. Think you could do a Shedinja/Ninjask tandem?

I would imagine Relicanth would have some kind of special sensory organ in it's large head

I mean, if it's completely blind, it needs something to make up for it.

Good point!
*Ponders*
Weeell, maybe it could have electronic sensory organs on the head... like a hammerhead shark XD
Otherwise the lateral line will do most of the work... I guess...

I like the former idea Only because of the way the head is, it just..makes sense to me that it's head would be a very important part of the animal.
