I wonder how this would look with Jangmo-o, Hakamo-o, Kommo-o, Drampa, Turtonator, Torkoal, Scraggy, Scrafty, Aerodactyl (Normal & Mega), Zygarde 50% & Ultra Necrozma as part of the chart.

Zygarde would be a tricky Pokemon to place. Since it's technically made of a bunch of cells sticking together, maybe it would actually be related to Ditto or something. And Meltan would be as well. Meltan is almost the missing link between Ditto and Zygarde. It looks like Ditto, but has Zygarde's mass of cells transformation.Β

I feel that Meltan would also be connected to the likes of the Magnemite family, Klink family & Magearna.

Yes, it would link up all of them. I can't remember where Magnemite and Klink are placed in the massive tree we made, but they're so weird, I'm sure they're not somewhere vital.

I think you have it messed up a bit, according to Nintendo themselves Arceus created the universe, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina simultaneously, so i think Dialga could lose two of his limbs and become Kyurem and then let the evoline go on.

For this project we're assuming all that stuff is just a myth. We're looking at the science of Pokemon, and creationism isn't science. As for how this tree looks, we're probably going to redo it anyway.Β

Pyro-da-hedgehog In reply to PkmnOriginsProject [2014-06-03 17:05:57 +0000 UTC]
Well, Arceus doesn't look like he could come from any other Pokemon in the world, I think he could be the common ancestor of the legendary area. But then again what do i know?

PkmnOriginsProject In reply to Pyro-da-hedgehog [2014-06-03 18:05:27 +0000 UTC]
Well the way we're doing things, not all legendary Pokemon are related, so that wouldn't be possible. I don't see why Arceus couldn't have evolved from something else.Β

In a different tree, you put Rayquaza right by the Dragonite evoline. Mind if I ask why it is nearly as far away from there as it can be here?

Yeah, there's often arguments about where a Pokemon would be most suited to go, so they can show up in different trees.Β

Interesting concept. Though you may not like this, but what if Arceus is the oldest species which then branched off into Diagla, Palkia, Giratina and Mew. We do know(or at least it's theorized) that Mew is the ancestor of all Pokemon aside from Arceus, Diagla, Palkia, and Giratina.
Let's say that aside from Diagla, Palkia, Giratina, and Mew, Arceus is also the common ancestor of all Dragon types.
Diagla is the common ancestor of Rock, Ground, and Steel types.
Palkia is the common ancestor of Water, and Ice types.
Giratina probably is the common ancestor of Dark and "Ghost" types.
Mew is the common ancestor of Psychc, Fire, Bug, Grass, Electric, Poison, Normal, Fighting, Flying, and the newly discovered "Fairy" types.
It would be an interesting work to see that model fleshed out.

I consider those stories about the Legendary Pokemon to be entirely mythical. From an evolutionary standpoint, it makes no sense for the most powerful and advanced organism to come first. Also, we are not making the trees based on type. We are basing the trees on how animals evolved in the real world, at least as much as we can. But thanks for taking an interest!

I understand, though look at our own fossil record. In the past there were large marine and land creatures which are way for powerful then anything we've got today because of the environment they lived in.
Keep in mind that many myths also have hairs of truth in them that get blown out of proportion, and get even more exaggerated as it gets told and retold.
Look at giant squid. For centuries people thought it was just a tall tale told by sailors who were hallucinating things while out at sea for long periods of time, until some washed up on seashores.
Perhaps these stories originated in their world's version of early Quaternary period. That might be when Pokemon like Arceus, Groudon, Kyorge, Diagla, Palkia, Rayquaza, and mew were rather common sight to behold. Seeing such creature's with such power could be the basis for these myths.
When the global environment changed to where it could not support many of the larger species, they had to adapt to the change and reduced their sizes in which also reduced their potential power, but at the same time allowed to to survive and even thrive in various new forms in their new isolated pockets much like how many species did here on earth.
Sandshrew might be a direct descendent of Groundon that lived in desert and mountain areas. Sure the size changed, but they both have similar 'armor' patterns, eyes, and claws.
Groudon having to adapt to the change in enviroment had to get smaller so it could have enough food for it to survive. Each generation grew slightly smaller until it reached the size of a sandshrew. It also the golden version of the Groudon/Sandshrew became more prevalent because it allowed it to hide in the sand more efficiently. This was because in its smaller stature it became vulnerable to predators.

That is pretty much how I view the legendary Pokemon, yeah. Ancient and powerful, but now mostly extinct. While Sandshrew and Groudon have similar patterns, though, they won't be related in our version of Pokemon evolution, because Sandshrew is based off a mammal, Groudon is based off a reptile, and we are trying to stick to that as much as possible.Β

How does Arceus have an ancestor if it created the universe? Moreover, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina were created directly by Arceus. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE your work. But maybe a little more research? (And maybe try to work everything back to Mew, the original Pokemon?)

I know all about the PokΓ©mon myths. But creationism is an unscientific concept. This project is about re-imagining the PokΓ©mon series as a parallel to reality, so we are treating all the PokΓ©mon myths and legends as just myths and legends, made up by primitive humans. Arceus is the most powerful PokΓ©mon as far as total stats are concerned, but I don't believe it's powerful enough to create the universe.
Thanks for taking an interest in our project, anyway

Thanks. In Pokemon Origins Project Arceus is just a very powerful regular Pokemon, not a god. And we also ignore egg groups because we assume that all Pokemon are separate species who can't interbreed.

It would be interesting to incorporate some of the mythology of pokemon into this (i.e. Pokemon from space [clefairy, staryu, kyurem, deoxys, etc.])

We're specifically avoiding mythology, but in our Project some pokemon did move to space, evolved there, and came back, such as Deoxys, Jirachi and Elegyem.

I think Charizard and Rydon should be closely related because they have the same cry
π: 0 β©: 1
PkmnOriginsProject In reply to pokemonSEGA [2012-12-17 00:43:43 +0000 UTC]
That is an interesting Pokemon fact, but since one's a lizard/dragon and the other is a rhinocerous I don't think they'll be related. Their related cries must be a case of mimicry or something. Perhaps, since Rhyhorn has great type advantage over Charizard, Rhyhorn mimics Charizard to draw it in and attack it, when Charizard would otherwise want to avoid Rhyhorn.

As far as our Project is concerned, the legends about Arceus being the creator of the universe are nothing more than a myth. We're looking at the Pokemon from a scientific point of view. No "magic".

Tsuki222 In reply to PkmnOriginsProject [2012-10-09 15:59:32 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but I thought them to be maybe like cetaceans or Ichthyosaur to fish, or something like that, you know unrelated but similar in form and shape. Only Horsea, Seadra, Kindra, Dratini and Salamance are called the "Dragon PokΓ©mon Species" oficialy in the pokedex [link] [link] [link] . Also they have similar elements to them, like overal coloration(Dratini/Dragonair), Belly(Dragonite), Horns(Charizard and Kingdra, Horsea and Salamance) and a few others. Even among Pokemon Shelgon and Pupitar resemble an insect's Pupa, but aren't insects, and Dunsparce looks fairly insectoid, but is a snake.

Yeah, it was very late at night so I din't have time to neaten up the arrows. But it shows just how well the reptillian tree is going now, we are finally to the point where we can link up multiple existing trees. Combined with the bird tree it would be formidable indeed.

needs deino transition...and a raqua common ancestor...and a dragonite-lizard ancestor
also, trophias...thopugh dragon-like should be more dinosaur-tetrapod
snakes....should be called serpents rather than snakes, maybe aslo differ as a paralell evolution. whereas snakes fall under lizards and serpents under more directly as dragons

PkmnOriginsProject In reply to Red-Orion85 [2012-10-08 01:03:24 +0000 UTC]
What's the difference between dragons and dinosaurs, really? Personally I'm pretty happy with this layout as it is. I know there are a lot of missing links that need sprites, but it was late and I was only actually planning to make a sprite to link Arceus ancestor to Dragonite ancestor... and I did heaps more than that!
