Description
Portrait of a mare and new foal. I want to say the mare is a Pony of the Americas. I do know that she is absolutely gorgeous! Here is the original photo I worked from [link]
I really didn't anticipate their colors being so difficult to capture but I had a really hard time with it!
I have a cold
EDIT: Errr.. The perspective was driving me crazy and I wasn't the only one who could see it so I played around more with trying to make it look like she is on a hill rather than a flat plain

Don't know how you did it, but I think you got the hill perspective going very well. All I'd say is maybe make the shadows longer, as they sometimes are when hitting a hill? (if the light source is coming at them from the...side...now I'm mixed up...don't mind me. I've got finals on the brain. )

i wouldnt say the perspective is wrong, just that the neck looks kinda.. funky.

This is excellent! I didn't notice anything wrong with the perspective, but I do definitely love the way you've done the grass/background, the earthy tones & the color of the foal. I think of all of this, my favorite is mama's mane... it almost looks like fine-grain wood. Sooo pretty!!

I like it! I wasd comparing the actual picture and the stetch and I noticed that you refrenced it but you made it in your own style which is really impressive. When I use refrences I always end up copying the style of whatever I'm looking at.

Very awesome I love the perspective and poses. You drew them very well. I really like the foal, I find them very chalenging to draw because their proportions and anatomy are quite different, but looks like you nailed it!!

Soft shading? Is that when you gradient? Or cell shade and lower occupacity?

I like to color in area I just want to change the color on slightly and then I use a gaussian blur to make the edges soft and lower the opacity

i'm pretty sure she's not a POA. that stands for Paint of America and from her spotted butt it looks like an Appaloosa.
great art though. i'm obsessed with horses and i love drawing them so i know how insanely hard it can be. looks like you've got it though!

I always understood POA to mean Pony of the Americas? I may be mistaken though
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it!

oh. well my best friend's horse is a POA and she is a registered paint...so i have always known POA to mean Paint of America...but she is really small, maybe just under 14.2 hands...so right at a pony level. i'm not sure though. it could be pony...
