Portrait of a mare and new foal. I want to say the mare is a Pony of the Americas. I do know that she is absolutely gorgeous!Here is the original photo I worked from [link]
I really didn't anticipate their colors being so difficult to capture but I had a really hard time with it!
I have a cold
i'm all sniffly and dizzy *cries*EDIT: Errr.. The perspective was driving me crazy and I wasn't the only one who could see it so I played around more with trying to make it look like she is on a hill rather than a flat plain

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Horses are my favorite thing in the world. But one thing, the foal's cheekbone is a bit oversized, otherwise, I see no flaws. I do wish I could draw so well as you.

have a look at the distance between the point where the mare is standing and where her lips touch the ground. that is too far a distance for a neck to cover. it's interesting to see that this actually is the original pose, so probably the problem is a perspective thing. in your painting the horizon is lower than on the photograph, i suppose that is why. nice work though.

I got some free time and went back in, reworked a bit of the background to try and improve the perspective. But I'm not sure how much I fixed, it still feels off to me

that is strange. it still looks wrong. i blended the two pictures together only to find that you made an almost perfect copy of the pose. thumbs up. hm, so no clue _at all_.

Yea, I can't wrap my head around any fix other than reworking a huge chunk of it. I'm not sure I'm ever going to be totally happy with it. Thank you so much for taking another look!

I didn't read through all the comments so I'm sorry if I repeat. I love it but wanted to point out one thing. The mares feet are much further away than her head can reach. Other than that small perspective I love it

Hmmm, this is pretty much a direct copy of the photo. All you did was paint over it. It should be placed in photo manipulations if you plan to have it submitted to DA.

Sorry to say this but you must have bad eyesight. This is obviously different from the original, even with the poses, the perspective and not to mention it being portrayed in a different style, rather than just being copied off the picture.
As long as Im concerned its a very beautful picture, and extremely well done.

The point of the portraits I have been doing is to make them as accurate as possible so I can see why you might think I just painted over.

I hate drawing birds! OMG they ANNOY me! But every now and again I sit down and force myself to draw them. Practicing what you don't like makes you a better artist in the end.
