Description
Younger Celia with Rayn the Macaw. How do you feel about seeing character art from a comic when those characters haven't been introduced in the story yet? I know when I see it, sometimes it makes me excited to see when the character will be introduced and what their part is. But does it ruin any of the surprise of meeting a character in the right context?
I figured this was alright because Rayn isn't too far off from his debut haha, and to be honest a lot of the time I figure out more about my characters only through drawing them.
Why do all my descriptions turn into babbling? lol All I meant to ask is if people were bothered by seeing a character before meeting a character.

I don't mind seeing new characters as long as they arrive in the story soon after you see art of them. I've seen more than a few comics which show art of future characters or storylines and places. But then, for various reasons, the comic tapers off and is never finished. If I see Rayn soon and come to understand his importance then I'm more than happy for his debu to be now. I don't see art like this as ruining the suprise as I'm never sure what to expect in comics until the world has been well established. I didn't even know parrots were around in this world so Rayn's appearence is fine as it helps set the world up.
I wouldn't say you babble at all. Its so refeshing to see an artist give a bit of context to their art and ask for feedback on a particular subject rather than just posting and leaving everyone guessing.

Sorry for my super slow reply! I really appreciate getting feedback.
I get exactly what you are saying!
I think it can be frustrating to see art from a story when there is super slow progress on the story. (one of the reasons I don't post my comic stuff too often lol)
Rayn is coming up pretty soon in the story, so I feel ok about posting pictures of him, he isn't really a surprise character or anything. I was too excited after playing around with the character design to resist posting him haha. But I do wish I had waited for a few more months once I am started on the next issue.

Don't worry. When it comes to reply speed you have me beat.
Is your comic a hardcopy publication? I'd love to keep up with the story as it very interesting. That said, with the amount of detail that goes into each page I can see why it takes a little while to get a page done.
Rayn looks like a fun character. I'm interested in seeing his impact on the story and the other players.

Sometimes I like meeting them first, but as long as the concept art doesn't give too much away, than that's fine. And even if it were to ruin the whole climax of the plot, concept art is still useful, and cool to see.

Ugh I used to have a blue and gold macaw. I miss her so much. She bonded with my mom a littttle too much, to the point she was aggressive toward all the rest of us if my mom was around. She was super beautiful, this reminds me a lot of her Lovely work as always!

Is it a lot of work, having a macaw? They really are so beautiful, I've always admired their colors.

I don't recall it being a horrible amount of work. Ours had a tweaked beak due to its mother trying to "beak check" her when it was still soft or something, so we had to break out a dremel tool once in a while because the top part grew too much or something. I was pretty young, but I remember cleaning out the newspaper in the bottom of her cage and giving her bird seed -- because her beak was crooked she made more than a mess and we had to sweep up the room just about daily too lol. She loved banana! Her pupils got really small when she saw it coming lol. It was cute. We had a 7" tall cage for her. it was neat because it was shaped like an antique canary cage or something, but built for her beastlyness. Wing clippings, too, of course, but I think my dad's friend who bred the birds did that for us as needed. If I recall correctly, it wasn't much more work than having any other pet Love an attention and cleaning up after her was a necessity. I miss her

I would rather meet the character first, to be honest.
I don't like to feel as if I already knew them before I meet them. It's like someone telling you your gift before they give it to you.

And lovely art, by the way. <33 I love the feather detail on Rayn!

He's very pretty, I like seeing parrots as characters. They're very beautiful animals.
Personally I've been drawing characters from my books which nobody's read yet for years and nobody seems to mind. Drawing them helps me think and to visualize parts better. It solidifies them for me.

I honestly think it's fine, even if the character wouldn't be appearing for a while.

I think so long as it's a little bit before their debut it's fine. If you were to show this and then 10 pages down the road he still hasn't shown up, people would be like 'so where's that parrot at?'. Atleast that's what I've seen occur with some peoples comics. I've actually seen some people yell at comic artist for it, it's messed up, but it's happened.

LOL I'm counting pages in my head and I think I'm in for a good scolding. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if I updated frequently.

I think when there's a small child involved in ones life, it makes things a bit more lax since their needs need to come first.
Phoenix went to preschool last years for three hours a day and it wasn't until then that I actually got the time to have 'me time' for more than 5 minutes. Which, my 'me time' was either napping or doing art stuff.

lol, well you know I didn't think about that! I just assumed while drawing that he was hanging onto a few big clumps of her fur, but I didn't think about her hair being pulled. T_T Poor Celia is so tough she isn't even wincing.

I would say it only really ruins the surprise when the character's appearance is SUPPOSED to be entirely a surprise
Beautiful drawing!

That parrot is beautiful!
And I think it only ruins the surprise if the character's introduction in the comic is supposed to come as a surprise. X3

Thank you!
I agree with you! I suppose I don't have a ton of characters whose introduction is a surprise so I really shouldn't hold back posting concept art.
