Wow, I love the colours and the markings! It really makes me think of Egypt and the warm sand of a desert.
I like the way you coloured it - the smooth gradient of the fur and strong shading - quite unusual.
I also love his face, especially the shiny eyes.

If its just a character it doesnt matter, if its supposed to be some representation of the roman god mars then i cant see how it wouldn't be male.

When I saw Mars I thought immediately that he was male. Mars doesn't seem like a particularly feminine name, either. But just because he's male doesn't mean he has to be... particularly manly. haha

Beautiful! I just love the combination of yellow and purple. What a gorgeous, detailed character design. To weigh in on the name, I can't hear "Mars" without thinking of the Roman god of war, but that doesn't mean you can't break the stereotype!

I can see both the masculine and feminine aspects in the character. But I think for this oen I'm leaning towards female.

I wouldn't let the name decide the gender. Honestly if it was a god like creature since in a lot of mythology gods or holy creatures could often be androgynous. So maybe Mars is just androgynous. Besides I have a dog name Orion and its female so Names don't always have to fit the stereotype of a gender. I say let the character speak to you, if it's female then it's a female Mars if it's male then its a male Mars easy as that

Gorgious plague absolutly Amaxing! I think Mars looks like a Pharaoh Hound to me what with the thin sight hound body skinny tail and mainly due to the huge ears

I personally say male because if you go with the Roman mythology (I don't know if you do) Mars is a guy. However this character definitely looks more feminine, so I guess female fits more for the character than for the name.
