Description A (belated again) quickie for Fluttershy Day, wish I can go someplace like this someday

The pose looks weird but I don't know what's wrong, thoughts?

Very pretty. I do not see what you mean about the pose, though

Quiet moment staring at clouds. Simple. But with our busy lives and electronic gadgets... we forget to simply look at the big blue over our heads.

Wonderful work

Yeah, life can be so hectic yet bland at the same time, moments like this are definitely a rarity for me... the last time must have been 3 or 4 years ago

We all need a day off to rest, relax and have quiet time with nature or ourselves.

Lovely piece! I don't find anything strange with the pose.

The texture you used look really nice too. Would you mind sharing the brushes used in this picture? I like rendering things out with the basic round brush, but it is frankly too taxing on time, and my pictures come out looking a bit too digital.

Sure, here they are: Brush Plainoasis20170430

With the exception of the hard rounds and the first two chalk brushs (which are just modified PS defaults), I did not make the other brushes. I think you can find some excellent ones here on DA and those may suit you better.

I'm not sure what you meant by "taxing on time", but although I said it's a quickie, this one still took me 4.5 hours...

Also my advice on avoiding "digitalness" as seen in some of your earlier works is to avoid laying down the initial colors/values (blocking-in) with a brush that had opacity/transfer assigned to pen pressure. Manually adjust the brush opacity as you need and blend only as necessary, overblending quickly kills the painterly look and gives you a muddy, blurry and digital-ly result which is often less than pleasing.

p.s. Use layers for exploration (Even oil painters do this with acetate membrane, no?), but don't become so reliant on it that it becomes a handicap.

That modified chalk brush is amazing. Thank you for sharing!

As for taxing on time, I mean everything I do take 20-50 hours... I always feel burned out doing those, which is partly why my art output rate is terrible.

And thank you for your advice! I'm still in the process of figuring out a proper workflow. And yeah, I usually end up overblending. It's a bit hard to grasp when to stop blending, because the smooth, texture-less round brush always make me feel like it would look 2-dimensional if I don't blend more. Hopefully the texture from other brushes can alleviate that.

Layers is another thing too. I'm not used to working with layers so I usually end up using only one layer, which is a pain sometimes. It seems to me that usually people have very clearly-defined shapes when they start using layers - the silhouettes generally don't change. I fumble around with that too much, so I don't know if that works for me.

No problem! Just take it slow, we all go through that meandering-wandering process as self-taughts tend to. Hope to see more amazing art from you!

Amazing work and tribute to Fluttershy!! Loving the style, quite artistic :D

I think the pose is fine but maybe have her two back legs to the same side as she's laying down? Maybe that could be what looks weird to you ^^

And the new episode was so crazy!! Loved it so much, so many things happened! :D

Thanks for the comment and yeah, the hindlegs are an issue here, but actually I'm thinking that the arm supporting the head is the source of the weirdness, I'll look into this further.

And about the new episode stream, sadly my internet connection is so bad that it's practically unwatchable... but I did learn that Starlight somehow loves to fly a kite and I think it's quite endearing, as it makes her look more like a real person (or pony) with a real life.

YES, I so agree!!! I LOVED to learn that about Starlight, so much!! It was so cute, and yes, endearing ^.^
And believe it or not, but that kite thing was planned all along, and every time we saw Starlight's room in Season 6, we could see kites laying there on the ground!! Like on this screenshot ! So it all makes sense now! Oh and here's the official confirmation from MLP's Supervising Director. Quite awesome if you ask me ^.^
