I dunno. I just felt really, really bad, leaving Magus out in the cold like that. Plus, with the Magus pictures I draw, I seem to have developed a fanbase, and I need to satisfy them too. So yes, I admit it - I've become yet another Lucca-and-Magus 'shipper. And NOT because Lucca is like me (as stated in above comic), but because he'd never look twice at Marle or Ayla, and there really aren't any other female characters besides Schala and Queen Zeal, who are both his family - I'm counting Flea as androgynous here. And if I invented someone for him, it would seem like I was just trying to justify illicit sparks by creating a 'me' that's from Zeal Kingdom or wherever. So, Lucca it is. Besides, she's the only one he'd ever even think of respecting, because she's the smartest.This is the first comic I've ever drawn that was deliberately not funny. For some reason, it was exceedingly painful to ink, though I was emotionless during the actual drawing.

I agree with you as someone who regularly ships Lucca and Janus together, although I still enjoy my fair share of Lucca/Glenn.
From the point of view of Magus/Janus, Ayla would be beneath him, having no type of intellect to interest him, and the people of Zeal never gave the impression of caring about physical appearance which also applies, though he would respect her for her strength and skill. Marle would be viewed with the same eye, only instead of Marle more-or-less 'lacking intelligence' like Ayla, their interests and outlooks are too different for them to connect; plus, Marle only has eyes for Crono. Neither Janus nor Schala gave me the impression of having a real family connection to their mother; Schala only seemed loyal because the woman was the Queen and I kind of got the feeling that Janus hated her. And I have no idea what the social morality in Zeal was as that's never shown too much, so incest could have been a regular thing and part of the reason for the Earthbound, similar to theories of Squibs in Harry Potter, but Schala was the only one Janus seemed to care about aside from Alfador, so unless you want to write Alfador in as a shape-shifter, Schala is the automatic go-to. Still, I like to avoid that and leave family out of such matters.
That leaves Lucca, the only remaining female, who fits the bill perfectly. Her magic is powerful and her interest in science would only be aided by her magical abilities. She would come off as a scholar or apprenticing Guru coming from a more Earthbound-based society, using her newly discovered magical gifts to amplify what she already knew while increasing her own skill. In the Kingdom of Zeal, Lucca would be the ultimate 'catch', as it were. As such, Janus would give her the most respect, amusing and privately sharing in her interest to deepen her own knowledge and skills. And her attitude of 'I take no bull' with compassion and optimism would slowly drill through his apathetic/indifferent shell, where Marle's more intense versions of those would just lessen his respect for her seeing Marle as a naive altruist. So while it would take time, a Magus/Lucca pairing does work best out of everyone.

I've just recently beaten Chrono Trigger, and I must say I can really see this happening. Lucca's enthusiasm and genius complimenting Magus' talent and apathy.

Aww... I can tell that a lot of emotion was put into this. The drawing is very well done too, Magus' expressions are great as usual. The 'timing' and general layout works well. Nice job!
