This is an acrylic painting on masonite board, measuring 40 x 60 cm. It depicts a mythical creature called a Huldra, native to Norway and Sweden.
She is known as The Lady of the Forest, and is known to both tempt men and drain all their energy, and to bless those who are respectful of her (never mention her tail!)

This is part of my "Fragile Things" collection - which will be on show in September 2012 in MalmΓΆ, Sweden.

It might help that I'm from sweden, but it was in an old game I played when I was little, they mentioned her there how she looked.

Hmz, I think I've heard the name mentioned somewhere before.
Anyway great work, would love to see more of mythical folk creatures
from countries around Europe, there's deffinaitly not enough of that.

Yes, I'm thinking about the same thing
- thou my studies would all go around slavic
mythology - there's so little of illustrations
of those creatures anywhere, and there's alot of those
"guys" around.

Wow... have you taken formal lessons to be this good and to have such a strong command of the medium of acrylics? I know this is in a Self Taught group, but I find it so difficult to believe you taught yourself this! How long have you been painting with acrylics?

plantiebee In reply to WhatHealsMeKillsMe [2012-04-21 18:57:42 +0000 UTC]

Lol, youre too sweet No, I have had no formal training - I was unable to attend college and this is all self taught. I have learned alot of great lessons from art friends, youtube videos, and books from the library I am glad you like my progress so far!
I did alot of art when I was a teenager, but I really hated acrylics back then. However, I stopped drawing for about 5 years and when starting again acrylics were a very forgiving and cheap starter artform.
I began painting with acrylics November 2010, and painted with them on and off for one year till I started with this style and have been working hard ever since!
No such thing as standing still right with art right

Wow! Well, your hard work is paying off. I love acrylics because they are cheap and I'm learning as I go what I can do with them. I had to stop what I was doing at first, to loosen up my painting skills I moved to Abstract. I'm close to moving on to bigger and better things, now that I'm not painting so "tight and rigid" if you know what I mean. I have a book on Acrylics, slowly going through it. I need to get on youtube, I've had others tell me the same, to give me pointers. Well, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I sure will try my best ^^
Self study may be difficult at times, but its well worth it for those of us who want to improve right? I think acrylics are a fantastic paint to do that with.
Enjoy the journey
