Intriguing way to use the clay texture, really strong general impact.

Thanks, I've always liked the clay rendered models shown to illustrate the product. And, thanks for the fave!

have you tried tu use the SubDiv set at 2?

It adds details if you are interested to explore further this technique.

I don't mean offense of course, feel free to ignore my babbling.

My knowledge of the interface is very limited due to time. My businesses demand 12 to 18 hour days 7 days a week. I always relish suggestions but due to my ignorance I'm not always able to apply the advice. So, no offense taken. I'm giving all my businesses to my partners in a year when I turn 70 devoting all my time to building a digital arts business. I realize handholding on dA is exhausting but if you give a brief explanation SubDiv set at two I'll give it a try. If not it's completely understandable.

That's some reallt busy timeline you have.

I do understand very well what you mean and when real life gets that busy is hard to have some spare time to dedicate to art making and learning.

been there myself and still there, to a degree.

Here there's a quick screenshot: every G3 and G8 figure has an extra subDiv level available ( genesis 1 and previous instead require a manual addition, for now, unless you're interested, i would avoid to complicate things).

In the slide where the red arrow sits you see i set it to 2, you can slide it back to one, if your pc struggles. More SubDiv means more polygons, means the scene gets heavier for you card/pc to handle.

Same for the parameter below the highlighted one.Β  So, for example for close ups or clay renders, addind an extra SubDiv makes the mesh looking smoother, enhanching the details such as wrinckles, muscles and vascularity, when they are used, of course. Some of the latest outfits, environments and hairstyles give you the same possibility, they are often sold in HD by default.

if you don't normally use the "parameters", you can retrieve it selecting " window"-------->panels(tabs)--------->Parameters and you can dock that toΒ  your preferred side of your working space.

Hope i didn't confuse you even further.Β

Wow, thanks for the info. I understand underpinnings perfectly. I do experiment in those recesses. Took me a while to find the hidden rendering Parameters but I am experimenting with Stonemason's later models to see how long I need to render to rid the image of grain.
Anyway, thank you I'll give it a try. It intrigues me.

uuuuh, the grain...is a pain and not only in Iray.

When using fog, smoke, dustΒ  some grain/noise will remain regardless. Best way is to enter the render setting editor---->filtering------>Noise degrain filter and set that value to 2.

The one right below is set default on 3 and it works pretty well. Then render huge and shrink the image in photoshop/GIMP/editing program of your choice.

Here you may find some tips when using fog Freebie Iray Godray Testing Scene

I personally recommend to keep an eye on that artist, you'll find articles and tricks that will save you a lot of energy.

parameters are your best friends, might be a bit tricky at first is you're used to the smart content panel, but once you get used to it, there's no turning back, lol.

Have fun! ( and you're very welcome)
