Description

    The effect was almost instant. Papton curled up on herself, clutching Absolon tightly as the visions of her life flashed behind her clenched lids. Of being a bow and happily wandering through life, feeling lost and constantly reconnecting herself to different images of herself until she found Absolon and everything made sense. How the fiery, yet gentle tox didn’t exactly completely her but brought out the best side of herself. They both were able to find their place in this world together.

    Then the memories changed from happy to sickly as they replayed what had happened that led to them doing this. Of seeing Absolon dressed in black with a knife poised like a striking snake over a quivering Lee, too intent on her prey to notice the figure advancing on her from behind. How everything quickly turned to mush in Papton’s memories as a deep, unknown anger caused her leap forward and kill the figure before they could reach her love. How the anger and protectiveness had consumed her so entirely and then left her empty and quivering as she stared at her red-stained hands while Absolon called out her name in a panic over and over again. How Papton with time learned to forgive and trust Absolon again but couldn’t forgive herself. But eventually those memories faded until there was nothing but darkness and the warm, strong arms around her that kept her safe as her mind was wiped clean. That sensation only leaving her when her mind had decided it had had enough and she slipped into sleep.



    Absolon didn’t realize how hard it would be to leave Papton until the time came for her to do so. Papton had fallen asleep in her arms and she knew it was only a matter of time before she woke up. She was running out of time, but it broke her heart to be breaking this promise and not know if she’d ever see Papton again. It had taken hours of thinking for her to come up with this plan and set her resolve to it. She couldn’t bear for them to force themselves to be together in case Absolon set them on the path of misery again. She wanted it to happen again naturally. That if they were meant to be together, they would find their way to each other.

    But she didn’t want to be the reason for Papton to be so sad again. So she wasn’t going to be here when Papton woke up. She was going to go deeper into the forest and take the potion alone.

    With a broken sniffle, she reached down to brush away some of Papton’s bangs from her face, trying to etch her face into her memory as if there would be some way for her to get her subconscious to know to find this special person.

    “I’m sorry, but I love you so, so much. I hope we meet again in this life or the next,” she whispered before forcefully wiping away her tears and turning away.

    She walked through the forest until she felt like she was a safe distance away where they wouldn’t happen upon each other when they woke up. Then she took a deep breath and downed the potion in one go before she could think about it a moment longer.
