Dang, I'm so sorry you got a couple of folks arguing with you over something they coulda stayed silent about. Like no one cares if they think a design was too simple for them and it didn't hold enough value for them to even want to buy it. It's not that damn deep and you've been selling designs for a longggg time that tends to change from simple to being more than that many times. I'm sorry?? Is there a rule somewhere thatΒ allΒ your designs have to look unique and less basic to everyone just cuz you're an 'artist with potential'. Is there some design rulebook I missed when I continued my childhood until adulthood as an artist?? Somebody gonna have to clue me in, cuz I must be lost lmfaoo
They also kept calling their unneeded statements about the design 'criticism', but telling you things like you got the mindset of "anyone will buy it if there's nothing there", your decision is lazy, bad practice and calling it generic is still not criticism. Not once did they say anything that could actually improve the design, like I if say what you changed some spots to being heart shaped.
Masking statements and personal opinions with no constructive suggestions tacked on as criticism is still not criticism lmao. No, it doesn't have to be sugarcoated, but it doesn't have to be unhelpful blather either.......cuz that's not what it is.
You've reiterated multiple times that as long as it has value to someone that'll buy it, they will. And the design(s) in question have been literally bought. It had value to you to create it and someone saw value in it too to like it and buy it as it was created for. End of argument, if you don't plan to buy, don't. Don't be rude in the artist's own spaceΒ and act like you're the only right one delivering facts.Β I don't get ppl who step up to disrespect an artist, devalue what they do then get taken aback when you stand your ground lol. Just cuz you can say certain things, doesn't mean you should.

mmmMMMMthank you so much!!! i'm glad people understand that this isn't me reacting poorly to criticism, this is me defending the value in our work as i hope any artist would do when challenged with a similar principal of "it's not worth the price!"
value is subjective. i more than understood their "concern as watchers" that the quality of 2-3 out of 16 designs did not all reach the same par but what they don't understand is that's perfectly OK if someone else sees value in it.
i am more than willing to listen to valid critique, but their arguments simply were not that of more than statements and opinions presented condescendingly.
i want more people to stand up for themselves as it seems like people like that find it common practice to tell an artist (or in some of their cases just attempt to validate eachother instead of speaking directly to the artist lol;; ) they don't see the worth in one of their designs when it's just not necessary? especially when given multiple examples of the same instance only to have it thrown back in your face "popular people can sell anything!" making their points lose all validation on the spot.
work hard, people will notice, people will follow and support you and desire your art! there's no shame in being able to sell designs that are supposedly not on par with the usual. i'm unsure if being able to sell these was insulting to them, resulting in bitterness, but they're more than capable of reaching the same point, just takes a little effort. we take pride in our art and designs, no matter how simple. if we didn't think a design was 'worthy' of being sold, we wouldn't post it. our outlook on adoptables is if we wouldn't want it ourselves, why expect someone else to? and that's how we've been doing it for a long time.

Yea, basically, like artists are human beings and it's like folks be forgetting that when they low-key or even straight up tell an artist that their efforts are worth less than what someone sees it as cuz of their own personal standards, it can affect self-esteem. Some creators give up making art for a while cuz some people couldn't think before they typed out thoughtless words and then wonder why they aren't active artistically anymore or went private with their work. Just....don't??
I wonder how many times can we have the 'value and art is subjective/art is a luxury' conversations, but it seems like people just forget or stay ignorant about it. 2-3 designs out of not only that one set but out of the truckload of designs you've already done that weren't basic and were instead successful makes their concern look like someone nitpicking, imo lol. If they were that concerned, they would've known that you're not heavily impacting your business cuz of a few extra simplistic designs, so yea their engagement with you at some point just reeked of condescension.
Same here, it's nice when artists don't always take a whip to their face silently. The thing is that artists that gain audiences still worked as much as they could for most of the time they've been alive, so it's not wrong to say that someone earned their audience with their own efforts. It's super dehumanizing even to try to use someone's popularity as a weapon against them. Popular artists didn't ask to be made popular. I didn't know we could just put in a request to the Popular Place or gather the Dragon Balls to finally get that sweet wish lmfao. They're just like any other creator doing what they do to keep their creativity and financial stability afloat with their work if they can. They just happen to have a higher demand for their work cuz they worked hard and their content resonated with a lot more folks. Them being popular doesn't invalidate their years of efforts.
Agreed. It often rings true that people will come to you when you put yourself out there and keep doing what you love until folks notice. I'm unsure myself, but I can tell they were being bitter while clinging to their own standards about design. I mean....some people like realllyy simple designs. I'm not seeing a problem lol. Exactly tho, I make adopts on occasion and I don't want to sell something I didn't put even some of my heart in. Expecting my audience to like the things I made with dislike and lack of heart is an insult to them, really.
